WW II Ford Snowblower Cummins or not?

I have acquired a '42 - '47 (I am not sure what year)Ford that was modified by Marmon Herrington to four wheel drive. Ford did not make four wheel drive until the fifties. Klauer Mfg. added a Waukesha 6 cylinder flathead six to the bed area. This drove a giant snowblower on the front of this truck. The original engine (flathead V8), transmission, and radiator are missing. Otherwise the truck is in remarkable good condition and probably never touched since the fifties. I had to saw down six inch thick trees to get this truck out of the woods! My intent is to restore this truck to good running condition so that I can use it to remove snow from my runway here in Alaska.



My dilemma is wether to keep to original power in both places or to use a couple of 4BTs in both places. Your comments and ideas would be helpful. Thanks,

I'd love to see this rig! If you're gonna' use it, I'd say repower. The truck wouldn't need much "umph" as it would have to be geared WAY down. The blower however would definitely need some guts. Waukesha wouldn't be at the top of my list if only for parts availabilty. Personally I'd keep the truck and mount the blower on a tractor! If you need a flathead and trans. let me know I've got a buddy that hordes them. Good luck, Greg

You can see a picture of one in Scotland at www.gwim2.blueyonder.co.uk/mhf.htm. I have been talking to Gordon there he has one of about maybe 5 or six of these trucks in existence. Please send me a PM with your friends contact info as I am interested in finding a flathead V8 for this truck. I need an engine, transmission, radiatior, and all the bits included to make this truck original. Even if I do decide to power with a Cummins, I will strive to make it reversible and have all the original stuff to revert to. Gearing should not be a problem as there is an auxiliary transmission in the driveline already. Thanks for the reply,

If you repower, make sure you keep the old parts, and try to modify it in a reversible way. Sounds like a VERY cool and unique vehicle!
