I own a xbox 360 at the moment, but my next system will be a Playstation 4. Xbox has gotten a little full of itself lately when they were talking about the features for the next generation console(Xbox One if I remember right) which will be released in the next week or so. The big turn off was that you cannot share games with people, once you put it in your console it can only be played in that console(like a vin locked smarty LOL). There was other things too but that was the big one. After they announced all this, the preorders for the console tumbled and Playstation's orders went way up because they didn't have all this crap. A few weeks after that they changed their minds. Sorry for rant, when I heard this, it pi$#ed me off. The new Playstation 4 was recently released and on the market.

In my opinion the Xbox is better for first person shooters and Playstation is better for driving games. So what does he like to play would be my question. Does he need to play the newest games or does he like older ones. I don't know how much you want to spend cause that would dictate what generation console you would want. New games will be released for the older generation consoles for a number years until they phase it out along with the online support. I haven't looked at the prices of the new PS4 or Xbox yet, I am waiting for spring so hopefully some of bugs are corrected(there always are some it seems). Xbox Live is a good online service, where as PS Online has had its share issues over the years, but now it seems to be better. So that wouldn't be a deciding factor for me. In summary what games he would want to play would be the biggest factor, some games are available for one and not the other. I hope this helps ya. On a side note I use my Xbox now a days for Netflix mostly, it is my favorite feature(PS3 has it too).

My daughter has a Wii I believe. I've played some of the sports games with her and I've enjoyed them. I don't know much about the Xbox or the Playstation.

Ya I dont know what his parents want him to play on it, It was a quick thought as a gift. He wants one but his parents are pretty strapped for cash, he's a real nice young man that tries hard to pull his weight around here. So I guess the next thing is to ask his folks what they think.

Thanks for the help

Penny and BIG

BIG,

Neither, I vote for another pocket or folding knife I'm partial to Schrade Uncle Henry series, fire starter, maybe a trail hand axe, Silva compass and some Snow Seal for his boots.

Gary

AHHHHHH come on Gary!!! don't be hard nose about it. :-laf He already has most of the things that you mentioned and has access to our tool shed for the others. He's a young man that seems to have his head on straight, its not often he asks for much so we think he's due.

Did you get a chunk of Coal last year or something? :-laf

Brother BIG!

Checked in with my "Head Child" =) (Wife)

She says the X-Box has more family friendly games than Play Station 3.

They are both good. She has the Play Station 3 that She, my Son and Stepdaughter use to waste inordinate amounts of time, playing games!

It came with our TV we bought last year. She said, if she was buying, she would get the X-Box.

She also said that the Play Station 4 is not what she would want because of some compatibility issues and content.

Now, just to let you know, I have no idea about this stuff. Just passing on what her take is, on the issue.

BIG,

I'd dope slap you all the way from SC if he didn't have a good Woodsman's starter kit from BIG and Penny!

Still never ever played a game of X Box did a little WII bowling IIRC one time or something. I still remember when Pong came out.

Thanks G
Like you I haven't got a clue about this type of thing. I think kind of like Gary some outdoors equipment would be a good thing, for exercise and just getting outside to breath some clean cold air!!!! But he cant do that all the time. Our Son is at some kind of conference thing in another part of the state. I asked him, he's on the games that work thru the computer and people from all over the world play. I dont know how great that idea would be for an 11 year old, and I dont know if our Hughes Net would let that happen anyway. He said to hang on he will be home soon and take a look at whats available.

Thanks

I know that the Wii systems have fallen behind the rest recently, but I still find some joy in playing "Guitar Hero" on it once in a while.

Trying to plink out "Crazy Train" gets my mind away from anything else. That is hard work... ... . trying to keep up with a Randy Rhoades' solo on a plastic guitar. :D

He's got all the equipment that our children out grew, so I can bet he's more set up than most. He and I have some outings planned when it starts getting good and cold. We watch the shows on TV that are outdoors orientated, we think that we can do at least as well as they do with the camping parts of them. We went to a sports show where I picked up that fire starter he also got one and a nice fixed blade knife.

I also picked up some used line traps body grip, coil spring traps and some load traps, I've never done any trapping but have done quite a bit of reading about the subject, we caught some rabbits using snares, and have got a Coyote Pelt soaking in some tanning solution to try that part of it. Im more of a shoot it type, and have done some survival runs on Mountain Grouse last year using my Survival Take Down 22. Nothing like a fire roasted Grouse basted in Maraschino Cherry's and sauce, with some spuds, and veggie!!

So ya see Gary he get's me out of the house as I do him, he say's he needs to earn his keep around here, he's not the least bit intimidated with work.

I can see ya now Mike sliding down the hallway in sock feet and underwear, like Tom Cruse!!!! :-laf

Not much of a gamer here but a friend of mine is big into it and says the Playstation is the way to go plus it is a blue ray player to boot.

if the parents are on tight budget, just be aware that the games are about 60. 00$ each... . that adds up..... my kids are 5 and 8 and i just wont buy one, because i dont want them glued to the t. v any more than they are. .

Hey BIG,

Lets rethink the whole project... ... .....

A team of young Mules!

There, all done with the Christmas shopping for him.

I want to see how you wrap 'em send pic's.

He's not afraid of the mules, not one bit!!! he knows where to stand to be safe and tends to them every chance he gets, he's just not big enough to put the Panniers up on the sawbucks yet, but he knows the knots and their use and most of all knows how to tie them with STYLE!!! making it look like a packer with experience has done the job. When his Father gets done with his Re-hab im hoping that they stay in the area so we can continue with his training and experience.

Just my . 02 worth. I have a 15 year old son who has an XBox. IMO 11 years old is too young for the kinds of games that XBox or PS3/4 run these days. Get him a little used 150CC 4-wheeler or kids snowmobile instead! Or get him a beginners gun and teach him how to hunt, and not wasting his childhood in front of a stupid video game. My son bought that crap with his own money (that he earned in a summer job) and I still limit how much time he uses it, especially when the sun's out.

On Post #11 he has our children's equipment, all he has to do is say the word, keep his schooling up, chores done and he knows we are gone to the hills. He and I shoot rabbits for dinner he cleans them and takes care of the cleaning of the guns (with supervision on ANYTHING GUN) He's a bunch older than his 11 years. He's jumped a grade in school and in general takes care of business before he's told that something needs to be done, its already done!!

Its just my opinion but I think he needs some time as a youngster before he get's to 15 years old, im sure that Penny and his Parets will monitor OUR :-laf time on the game set. I agree with the looking closely at the selection of games.
