Attached is a picture of the extension housing dust boot. It's a rubber piece pressed into the transfer case that is just a dust shield for the actual tailshaft seal.

Problem is, it's badly cracked and degraded (hard to tell from the pic). There is a very small weep hole at the bottom (presumably to allow any oil that leaks from the transfer case seal to drain). I'm going to hit it with some silicone spray in hopes of reviving the rubber and preventing future degradation.

Can I pump some grease into that weep hole, or is that a bad idea?

I noticed that mine was bad at about 40,000 mi. I cleaned it up and coated it with a thin layer of silicone caulk and let it dry. 8,000 miles later, a front axle u-joint was popping in 4x4 so I priced the parts and the total was more than my $100 warranty deductable. Just remember it's $100 per visit, so make a list before you go to the dealer. (they tried charging me $100 per part... ... . WRONG!!!)
