2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission XM antenna install

THe antenna instructions for my XM antenna suggested running the wires under the weatherstripping, but I put mine in through the 3rd brake light hole (had to shave a little slot in the plastic bezel. Worked out slick, and Chrysler already drilled a hole in the double wall portion so all I had to do was fish the connectors through and I was in. Now lessee if it leaks!

I did the same thing and mine never leaks.

Just installed my XM wednesday, and LOVE IT! washed the truck yesterday, and appeared to have no leaks. . I just tucked the wires under the 3rd brake light grommet, and screwed it back in. Seems to be working fine, though I have problems with the antenna wire coming from the back seat... I guess it gets kinked, and cuts out. . will fix it tomorrow though.

I just had mine installed today, although not XM, but Sirius, because that's what my Kenwood deck supports.



I wanted to do the install on my own, but in order to get the $75 instant rebate, I had to let them... . BUT, they did allow me to supervise, so that I did. The guy looked at my third brake light and said "That's gonna be a son-of-a-gun"... I said, "Allright, I'll do it, you do everything else". So, I let him do everything, and I used a pair of pliers and a small driver bit to unscrew it, and it was a chore with my canopy in the way. But, I killed two birds with one stone... while re-installing, I laid a nice thick bead of silicone all the way around my light, to make 100% sure it wouldn't leak. I'm all smiles with the radio too. So far, sounds great. Will give it a good test on Tuesday during my 900 mile drive home across the Nevada desert.

Your gonna love it, have had mine in my semi since august, trips cross country to Tacoma, Wa and Phoenix Az from Wv and never had to change the station once. Great sound to plus NASCAR 24/7. Can't beat it.

The antenna that were installed which one were they? My wife had purchased the XM Radio with the car kit you self install. The antenna is a magnetic mount?

mine had an adhesive pad, that is pretty strong. size of a computor mouse. ken

Please tell me what x-m radio systems or part numbers you guys used. I will be getting a VW TDI diesel Jetta in two weeks. I have now a 1-1/2 hour 1 way commute to Los Angeles during the week. I would like to get one of these, but my nephew looked in to it and the factory VW radio does not support this new system. How should I preceed, and what are the part numbers?

Emarsh, there's lot's of different options on how to procede. You can get a whole new radio that is xm compatible or just get the receiver with a control head that hook's into your existing antenna wire. Your best bet is to go here and have them send you some info so you can compare. http://www.xmradio.com/sign_up/info_request.jsp

Was the wire run through the cab mounted brake light?

yes, through the brake light... you have to fish it through the little side holes, one antenna wire at a time. . No troubles after that... I had the whole thing installed and working in 1½ hours!
