I have several questions regarding installation of a Delphi MyFi XM system in my '03 which has the AM/FM w/6 cd radio.

1. Any suggestions as to where and how to run the antenna wire from the roof to the MyFi car cradle which will be mounted near the factory radio?

2. Where and how should I connect the car cradle to +12v? I would like to hard wire it, especially since the MyFi cradle will probably be located directly in front of the cigar lighter hole.

3. Is it possible to run the MyFi audio output directly to the factory radio? Or must I use the MyFi's built-in FM transmitter to transmit thru the air to the factory radio?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

By the way, I definitely want XM instead of Sirius so that I can listen to baseball games.

I can answer most of your questions.

First, i installed mine on the blank plate where the airbag passenger turn off would be if I didn't have a cre cab. I accomplished this by removing the dash around the radio, one screw and some clips. I then removed the blank plate (2 screws) and drilled the hole. I mounted my SKI-FI 2 using the double sided tape supplied with the kit... Which by the way is surprisingly strong. Temporarily I ran the supplied 12v (cigarette adapter) behind the dash and plugged it into the stock (upper) receptical. I plan to hard wire but was pressed for time. i ran the antenna cable under the passenger side dash and behind the kick plate in front of the door where you will find a rubber grommet leading into the passenger side door. I cut a small hole in the grommet to get the cable through and then sealed with silicone. I ran the antenna wire behind the (plastic?) splash guard (in front of the hinges, and between the fender well) leading up to the windsheild. I then carefully pulled back the rubber surrond sealing the windshield and ran the wire behind the rubber to the top of the cab by the clearence lights. Where again i used silicon to stablize the wire. Works great and minimal drilling to the truck. I have yet to wire the xm into the stock cd changer plug, I know it can be doen with an adapter, unfortunatly I can not remeber where to buy said adapter. Also you could FM modulate it through the stock radio antenna adapter. Or with the SKIFI 2 you can use the built in fm modulator which is wireless, this option however does not provide great quality. The best quality will be reached through going through the cd changer adapter.

Hope this helps.

Check out my readers rigs page. Lot's a pics there dealing w/ the XM install. I have an aftermarket deck so it's a little different. If you need help or have any questions just pm me. Later

I have the roady 2 in mine and just plugged it into the cigarette lighter for power and use the wireless FM modulation so I really can't help you with that part of it, but my antenna wire, I ran under the dash, then under the door moldings to the back, then up and around rear window, and out the third brake light on top of the roof at the rear. Very clean, no drilling, no silicone, most I had to take apart was the third brake light, which took all of two minutes.

I'm curious as to how you ran the antenna out the 3rd brake light - does the wire get sealed by the cover? I'm just worried about water getting into the cab. Can you post a picture of the outside wire run?

thanks -

Hey Frank,

Here is mine:

However that antenna was one of the first Sirius Streamer antennas and were known for troubles. Mine doesn’t get as good of reception as my wife’s Satellite system in her car so I am going to get another antenna with no tail (like hers) and put it on the left front corner of the roof.

The antenna will be right next to the windshield rubber seal not having a tail at all.

From there just run the cable under the weather striping.

We have tall trees so the theory there is having the antenna in the middle of the road reduces the chance of a tall tree interfering with reception.

Does anyone know of a adapter for the ant. that will go to a "nomal" style so I can hardwire my fm modulator into place without buying a 70 dollar part? I want to use the modulator I have, but it uses a large pin style ant. plugin like a chevy.

GBRADEN

On mine, ran the annt through the 3rd brake lgt hole(simple), I siliconed, but prob not nessesary, Along the roof/door edge(simple) w/o removing anything, down behind the pillar, under dash and in you case, out any dash joint to cradle.

Also, I had the 6disc in dash, can't hardwire it, must use the fm. I went w/ a Pioneer deck so it's already built in, just installed the 2 "little boxes under the dash in the middle behind the plastic piece right at the floor (in front of the 4X4 shifter).

You could hardwire it throught the cig lighter I would think, espec if you don't use it. I made a aux power block plate for engine compartment and ran some things to it, you could do that if you wanted it seperate and fused by itself. All your preferance.

PS... ... . Try not to run the annt wire with to many power wires, some say it will cause some interferance/distortion, maybe not noticeable, but just thought I'd mention it. Might be worth the forethought?

I bought the Delphi SA10112 FM Direct Adapter for SKYFi2 Receiver from Amazon ($24. 95) - it comes w/ an adaptor to plug directly into the radio antenna, has a port for the satellite antenna, and a plug for the cigarette lighter adapter so you can hide it all away - I'll be finishing mine up this weekend and will post some photos on my readers rigs page. Don't know if that'll do exactly what you need, but things like this are available (I've got a Delphi MyFi).

My antenna sits behind my middle clearance light. The wire drops into the slot between the window and the roof with a dob of silicone to keep in place, then runs around the window slot, into the engine bay, and through the firewall to the XM. Voile :) No muss no fuss, not my idea but another TDR member's idea. Originally went under the seats and out the back window to the roof. Also tried the on-the-dash - too many blanks. Like it where it is now. ;)

i also ran my ant. through the third brake light, worked great, no leaks, rainstorms, and washes both. Did that adapter plug straight in? the picture looks to have the large 1 1/2 inch male plug style end to it.

Use the connection behind the passenger-side kick panel (bottom of the cab, in front of the door - where the passenger's right heel would be). Behind here you'll find a standard GM-style male/female connection (this is how you would replace your AM/FM antenna if ever needed).

I mounted my FM modulator in the center portion of the dash, and ran the cables back behind the glove box to this location. They were long enough.

ok, so I've never really delved into taking the interior of my truck apart - how do you go about removing the kick panel to get at the antenna cable?

thanks -

Pretty simple. The kick panel and sill trim are all one piece. Get your fingers (or a screwdriver) underneath the sill trim, and pop it up (spring clips - no screws to remove). Then just pop the kick panel off by pulling it towards the center of the truck (more spring clips).

Empty out your glove box, then squeeze the sides in so the stops clear, and you can rotate the box all the way down. Then just lift it off the hinges, and you'll have plenty of room to get to the antenna connector, and run the wires.

XM Radio with factory radio

Hi Boys. I've been waiting for 6 months for this adapter for my RBQ radio. Now you can have presets and use your factory installed steering wheel controls to operate the XM. No fm modulators or something sticking out of your dash for the whole world to see and it's small so you can hide it just about any where.

that is pretty dang slick, course you can hide all kinds of things behind the dash panel, below and behind the heater controls. looks fairly simple, I assume it uses the cd plug in on the factory radio?
