XMonitor

I looking at buying the XMonitor for my 03 truck. I don't see too much info here regarding the XMonitor. Is anyone using the XMonitor? Do you like it? Any drawbacks? One I see right off the bat is the directions say you have to weld a bushing to the downpipe to accept the thermocouple. Don't most other systems just have you drill and tap a hole? Thanks in advance.

I heard, read on here, that the XMonitor is not as accurate as gauges.

I've got the xmonitor on my 98. 5 and am happy with it, mine sits on top of my steering column as opposed to the A pillar. You don't have to weld the fitting on the down pipe, which would be post turbo anyhow. Just drill a hole in your exhaust manifold and tap it same as any other. If you do that, it calls for a 7/16" drill. I couldn't get the tap started and went with a 29/64" drill and could then tap it. As far as accuracy, it would be kind of hard to tell unless someone had something different on their truck to compare it with, and then. . how would you know which one was right??

I've had excellent luck with mine. Checked it against mechanical gauges and saw little to no difference.

Have it, like it, the only drawback is if the face is in the sun it makes it a little hard to read, needs to be brighter. post mounted

I have an xmonitor on my truck and have had since new. Could use a shield around the screen on bright sunny days. But just cup my hand over it to shade it. Seems consistant readings. I must have a bad ground because sometimes when I start up it reads 0's. but on restart all is good.

I have one and like the looks of it BUT... you need a 1/4" n. p. t. tap for it. Had a heck of a time finding one without having to buy a whole set. 1/8" n. p. t. would have been better, they should at least include as an option if not standard. Plastic control box-sending unit is cheesy, mounts under kick panel. Buy some velcro and be prepared to do some Dremel work to mount it. As I said the sending unit is plastic and has a plastic nipple on it to which attaches the rubber boost line,not very robust and the boost line on mine blew off several times. Overpriced for the way it's cheaply made, I dont think I'd get another one. Next time I'll go back to S. P. A. ,better built,more compact,and a metal sending unit that mounts in the engine compartment.

Thanks for the input. It sounds like I might be better off with the guages. I have some LED radios at work and the sun makes them hard to read sometimes. Polarized sunglasses too. They propbably would have the same effect on the XMonitor display. I am also looking at Di-pricol and the windshield pod. Thanks again.

I love my X-Monitor ! One advantage is you can go back and see what your temps got up to and can set the setpoints on the alarms.

I thought about it, but I went with an airplane-esq redundacy setup :-laf I love having digital guages and the Attitude/ Juice/Edge. Got all of this hooked up for under $1600, and the install looks factory.

BD X-Monitor

I, also, have the X-Monitor, pyro & boost, only, & am very happy with it.

I, originally, tried the DiPricol's with a dash mount pod but, at that time, 3rd gen. pods were not available & I had to try & customize a 2nd gen pod. It didn't look like it was going to work too well, for me & no one, at the time, could tell me when the 3rd gen pods would be available.

The DiPricol's were purchased through Geno's Garage & they gladly exchanged them for the X-Monitor.

I use the grab handle, all the time, due to being "vertically challanged" (read: short) & the X-Monitor allows you to retain the handle. The guage fits neatly under the handle & is easy to read.

I, also, read about the problem with sunlight shining on the guage screen so, I built a sun shield, or hood out of a plastic switch box I bought from Radio Shack. Painted it the same color as the X-Monitor pod & painted the inside of the hood flat black. The hood extends out about an inch & works well at shading the screen. In very few instances have I had a problem reading the screen. It does happen though, but, rarely. Not enough to be a problem.



I, also, had a problem with properly mounting the under dash box. Kept falling off & the boost hose would come off. I finally got it properly secured & it has not been a problem, since.



The bottom line is, I'm happy with the product & would recommend it. The memory feature is handy, also, especially when documenting your performance enhancements.

Love mine

I have the X-monitor with trans temp, EGT and boost along with the add-on box for cooldown. Drill & tap for the thermocouple and came with the piers bolt for boost. Installed it all in under 3 hours.

Thanks again for all the info. I did some more looking around and wound up ordering the XMonitor. I like the simplicity of it (3 in 1) and the fact that it's digital. I'll live with the glare issue or maybe do a mod as others have done to address the issue. Tom, did you get the CES timer (requires the XMonitor) and if so, how do you like it? I was told with this box, the programming is done thru the XMonitor.

Sorry for the delay, I've been away from the computer vacationing. Logged about 1200 miles on the truck...



My timer has a trimpot on the add on module that you adjust. It's not through the display. One thing I really noticed on this trip was the chatter of the relay as the EGT's passed through the setpoint of the cutoff. I have mine set pretty low, at around 300 degrees. I will probably raise it to 325 or 350. 300 is about where the EGT's are idling in traffic with the auto transmission in D. Manual trans folks would probably not see this as the temps drop to 245-260 in N.

I bought the X-Monitor and am finally getting around to installing it. I am having a problem finding the transmission temp wire. I have an early 03 3500 with the 47RE auto (took possession 12/02). According to the instructions I should have a 32-pin PCM C2 and looking for Pin #1. Looking at the my engine it looks like the set-up they describe for the 04-05 year. ECM with 2 50-pin blocks. But it looks like pin #29 (the pin used in the configuration) has no wire. The plate under the blocks just says control module. Anyone install the x-monitor on an early 03? What wire did you use? Thanks in advance.
