I had my recall done Thursday. The technician said don't be surprised if it throws a sensor or SCR CAT code. But at least it is covered now. I had to complete it to get it registered in November. And the state is also requiring another smog check, the fourth one in six years. They are really trying to catch the cheaters.

Interesting.....I was bored the other day and was on the "other" diesel forum.....A member posted his 2016 truck went through a smog check without the update. It was in Ventura county....must depend which SQAMD district you live in..??

Seems to me that a Smog check on a Diesel is really a quick visual and a scan of obd hookup to make sure no codes present! They do not even due an opacity test! More like an exchange of money truthfully!

I was in New Jersey this summer and was shocked at the number of deleted diesel trucks running around there. I'd of thought being they are a CARB compliant state they'd be all over it.

My 2017 is running great with 68,400 miles on it....I just can't decided whether to do this recall or not. My truck just gets used for pulling the RV these days. What would you do?

Personally I'd go for it. Anything that goes wrong, related or not is covered under the provided warranty. It's the only reason I'm even going in for mine. It'll be the first recall I'm actually biting on since the ammonia sensor was removed on the early SCR trucks and the cat replaced.

The only thing that I can add is, make sure that you don't need the truck after you do the recall. You'll want to put some miles on it to see if codes will trip. I was without my truck for a month! Was waiting for parts to arrive, that were on B/O. New rear NOX and SCR on 10 y/o truck with 180K. Consider that a win in the long run! I think that there may have been a bulletin that went out to advise owners that things might need be addressed after the software recall is done. It's a new set of parameters that are being uploaded, and the components aren't up to the new standards. At least they'll replace on their dime!
