At 25K I placed a VA and PS Boost Module on this lady along with a pillar mount, turbo and pyro gages (later I acquired a Briar Hopper
fuel pressure gage). I have used her for towing at least 85% of the time. We have traveled all over the US including the alcan in January towing 5th Wheels and Travel Trailers from 24' to 38' and a 26 foot Cabin Cruiser. We replaced our factory front brakes at 82K. We replaced our rear drums at 121K. We replaced our factory clutch at 121K and she still was not down to the have to point and no flywheel work was required. The NV 4500 started making noises at around 120K but was still shifting just fine. transmission was completely rebuilt by Wilson Auto/Transmission in Gainesville, TX (also did the Clutch) including the Standard Transmission full splined shaft, fifth gear and nut fix. We have used two and one half sets of tires in this time. We get between 10. 6 to 14. 1 towing (normally 65 to 68 mph or the speed limit) and 20. 2 to 23. 6 empty at 65 to 70 mph (depending on wind and terrain). The lift pump and injector pump was replaced under factory warranty at 96K (lucky). The VSS went out at 120K which I replaced. She has had the factory recalls and updates but not the cold idle upgrade. I use Rotella 15/40 and Cummins filters. She has always fired up on the first or second turn of the motor even in sub zero weather. Were still using the original batteries. Have preformed all my own maintenance and replaced her serpentine belt once at 76K. In 2002 during our winter trip to Anchorage, AK. we were joined by a broke in but new GMC Diesel with the Allison Trans. . We ran together towing through Sas. , BC, Yukon, AK and all the way back to Souix City, Iowa from Anchorage empty, almost 6K miles together. We never took more fuel than the GMC. We were 800 lbs heavier when hauling, we fueled at the same fueling stations with the same diesel, weighed in at the same scales, traveled the same same roads through the same weather and I was towing a 32 ft tag along and he had a 30 ft tag along. In the Mtns. I would creep away from him or in other words he could not maintain my speed (not to a great degree but it was noticeable). Am I happy with this Y2K, you bet and even though some Dodge dealers leave a lot to be desired (and you can't judge them by the stars they claim), I love this Cummins and this Dodge truck. Most of all I sure like the TDR and the all the help I have received from it as a member, both directly and indirectly. On the drivers side rear cab panel we fly an American Flag sticker and a TDR Emblem. Proud of both
