I hate having to empty oil into a oil change pan and then dump it into a gas can so I can haul it to a auto parts store to dispose of it. It never fails it's a windy day (too much stuff in my garage to actually use it for vehicles) when I have time to do the oil change. I can never seem to get the oil change pan close enough to the engines oil pan to prevent the wind from making a mess.

Once I've made the first mess I've got carefully dump the oil from the pan down a funnel and into a gas can for disposal. Well, I decided to rig up my own contraption and it worked great. I had the engine oil drained into the can and ready for haul off in about 60 seconds!

The only trick is you need an old gas can with a vent hole. I also had to cut the end off the funnel to make it larger so I wouldn't get a messy bottleneck spill. A few holes in the funnel to allow for some zip ties and some super sticky Christies Tape and and you've got a Yankee Redneck Oil drain Pan.

You'd think someone could make a better oil drain pan that was more functional and transport friendly.

Nice!!!!

I use a 5-gallon bucket. Just cut off enough so that it will fit under the pan. I believe I cut off about 3-4 inches of the height. Works very well and is an inch or so from the pan so the wind can't blow the oil all over creation when the flow slows.

I have to hit you back on this... do I see your 4X4 jacked up to change oil? this could be a negative. That's why I buy 4X4s so I don't have to jack'em up to work on them. :D

I jacked it up to give myself a little more room. This was my Yankee Redneck Oil drain Pan's beta test so I wanted plenty of space. Oh, and I've got big hands and so I needed space to grab the drain plug. If I had dropped the drain plug into the gas can I wouldn't have been a happy camper.

I've always used a fifteen quart drain pan from Kragen and it was always able to keep up with the deluge when you pull these plugs. I replaced the plug with a Fumoto last time so it won't be such a life or death experience. A huge piece of cardboard is always mandatory as somehow, even with the plastic bag trick on the filter I manage to spill minor amounts of scummy 3rd. gen. oil on the driveway. We're just lucky to have a concrete driveway as some guys "do it in the dirt".

That's a fine idea, DPrew. I use a power (skill) saw and cut off a few inches from a plastic 5 gallon bucket. My Dodge uses about 3-4 quarts between the 10k change interval, so I only have to catch about 8-9 quarts of used oil. I use another 5 gallon bucket cut in half for the Regal and the wifes truck.

Just make sure to use the section of cut off bucket with only one hole in it. LOL

I installed a Futomo drain valve from Geno's Garage. Now, I can just stick a piece of hose on the nipple of the valve and drain it with no mess at all. And no tools are required to drain it.

I installed the "EZ Change" drain plug from Geno's and just stick the free end of the hose into the container before screwing it into the drain plug. And like WestTN says, "no tools required. "

I also use the Ez change drain hose from Genos and let it drain overnite. Some how when I pull the oil filter, The oil is about 2" down in the filter and no mess to get it out.

Stop by a bakery and see if you can get one of the square pails that they gets bulk eggs in. They hold 4 gals, fit under a 4x4 pan without mods and have snap on lids. I have a bunch of them. Work great. SNOKING

The older round buckets from Costco laundry soap work good. I can slide it under my truck with at least 1/2" to spare!:-laf Open the Fumoto and off we go. I like the gas can idea though. It is getting harder to find them with a vent hole. Of course, a drill bit will fix that.

ahhhh that aints redneek I jest puul my cummings clos as I kan to a nise crick and let er rip. then I just wach the pretti culors and yell git-r-done slam my beer and throow the botle it in the crick two.
