Yea I know, milage on 1st. tow?

Ok Guys, is this normal MPG?
I'm towing a 24ft inclosed car
trailer--total wt. loaded is about
8700#
4756 mi. round trip from So Ca. to
Ky. and back. MPG was a worst of 9. 9 and a best of 11. 4 Trk. has A/T
with 3. 73 gears SRW 2500 LWB
Total miles on Trk. now 7140. Is this NORMAL???
Everything else about it was fine.

Sounds kinda normal to me. Towing 10k its about 11 or 11. 5 with 4. 10s

Those numbers seem reasonable. How fast were you going? Makes a big difference.

bballsam, I drove 1700 miles this month, noticed you did have a 2500, I averaged 11 mpg pulling a GCW of 20K lowest was 7. 8 with a good stiff headwind and 12. 5 on the flatland (what there was of it!) Your's sounds normal to me

2000 RPM in OD, speedo was at 70-72
When I pulled the grades, I locked out
the OD and went up the hills 55-60 at
2200 to 2500 RPM

Also, you were towing a box. That has more effect on milage then weight.



A friend and I went from Tulsa to Moab and back. He was pulling a tag car trailer with a Modified Dodge Durango on it. Aprroximately 8K lbs. total. He has an 04 HO 2500 Automatic 4x4.



I was pulling his 4K lb. travel trailer behind my '03 3500 HO 6-speed SRW 2wd.



At the speeds we were driving (70~75), his was 1 to 2 MPG better then me. The few times I dropped back to 60~65 my milage inproved dramatically. The drag was so bad, that going down a 6% grade, I could let off the accelerator pedal and the trailer would slow the truck down. Did not need to use the brakes. Going west down I-40 into Albuquerque I actually had to speed up to maintain highway speed.



Your milage would have been better if you had been pulling a flat bed instead of the inclosed trailer.

ditto on the normal. Speed kills (mileage that is!)

Should get better over time, but I don't believe it'll change more than 2 or 3 mpg.
