Ya, ya, I know, lots of jokes with this lead-in, but this ain't one.

A few mornings ago I started her up and let it idle for about 20-25 minutes. We had a fresh coat of snow on the ground and at the tail pipe ( i got mine going down towars the ground at the rear due to my hitch set-up) the snow had a yellow tinge to it. Like un-burnt fuel maybe. Also I get a strong raw fuel smell in the morning and white smoke but all this goes away after a mile of running or so.

Manifold heaters work, I see bat gauge move.

Is this a sign of something?

thanks

It's unburnt fuel from over idling. Unless you are idling with an exhaust brake on or at 1200+ rpms there's more going on than just yellow snow. The unburnt fuel due to too low combustion temps is also washing down the lube in your cylinders causing accelerated wear. Some unburnt fuel will make it past the rings and dilute your oil. Many times you can tell if a rig has been over idled by smelling diesel on the dipstick. Diesels don't warm up well, if at all just idling. Best thing is to get in and drive after the oil pressure comes up. If it's the heater you're after plugging in will help or just a stick wedged in-between the seat and accelerator pedal to raise the rpms.

Remote Idlers?

Any suggestions on a remote type idle control that can be operated (without a stick) from inside the cab?

Perhaps a pull lever of some sort the set the idle above 1200?

Harold Bower's High Idle Kit -- email address removed -- is what I have it cost 45. 00... ... Rick

Rick, added to your post a little, illflem

NAPA has the nice T handle type with 5 or 9 foot cables. They cost about 15 bucks and you can lock it in at whatever rpm you want or let it go down to normal idle speed. Run the cable down to where your cruse control attaches to your linkage.

Its very nice to raise rpm for winching, faster warm up, better AC on hot days in slow traffic, to make the wife ask questions etc.

Berrigan, where can I find a device to to have the wife stop questionning everything? :D Dan

With my wife a foot massage and a bottle of her favorite wine usually does the trick. But then she starts asking me what it is I want, with a suspicious look. :D

Why dont they trust us? Dont the wives of the world realize that a hot truck is in there best interest also.

Like when I put the winch on the truck my wife said "what do we need that for?"

I calmly said that if she ever runs off the road and is stuck in a ditch I can pull her out and save the towing bill.

She didnt buy it.

Mine would rather have me spend money on something other than booze, women, and song.

She can "see" the stuff going into my truck and can account for every minute I spend working on it (as opposed to being gone away from the house to who knows where) Kind of like a mistress that she doesn't have to compete with... . what am I saying, "compete" well, let's just say the 2 legged kind.

My worry is this. My wife looks awefully good behind the wheel of my truck! And dang near everyone else out there thinks so as well.

A hot chick in a hot rig... who needs to worry more, me or her? Definitely ME!

Thanks illflem... you get the yellow snow joke for that... Americanized!!

Bill Clinton on his way to work one morning notices this writing in the snow bank in front of the white house.

" Bill's a two-timer!"

All insulted he calls the FBI in and wants this investigated right away.

A few days later the FBI report back to him.

"We'' we have good news and bad news... which one you want first... "

Bill says" gime the good news"

FBI says, we got the perp... DNA test confirms it's Ken Star's tracks . . no doubt about it.....

"What's the bad news?" Bill says

But the bad news is... ..... it's Monica's handwriting!"
