trailer ligh question with 2003 truck

Hi guys.

As you can see by my sig, I have a new Dodge RAM CTD that needs to be ran. I am leaving Thursday morning for parts north of here (Southern Utah), and will stop in Cody, WY for a week. We (sweetheart and I) plan on making Cody our hub and day trip into the park for a week. We have reservations at Absaroka Bay RV park outside of Cody. This is our first trip to Yellowstone NP.

Can anyone here give us insite on what to look for, things to do, etc.

TIA

Dean,

There is a lot to see in the park and pretty much anywhere you go, you will see some pretty cool stuff. I'd make sure to see Old Faithful Inn. I believe it is the largest log structure in the world. Be prepared for crowds! Any time there is a bear within sight, traffic stops.

Other things to see include the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody. Allow plenty of time - it's very large and diverse.

A good day trip is to go north from Cody on 120 to 296 - The Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. Be sure to stop at the bridge and walk out on it. When you get to 212, go toward Red Lodge, Mt. It goes over Beartooth pass, 10,947 ft. Many switchbacks and great views. Red Lodge is a pretty cool town. You can get back to Cody by going to Belfry on 308 and 72 back to Cody.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Google the NP Service and they have lots of information. Have fun!

Do what Bud said, That is a great road trip it is amazing. Stop at the lookout on top of chief Joseph pass and stop at the top of the world on the bear tooth side.

Enter the park through the east entrance and exit through Cook City side.

Spend at least a day at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody.

We are going to be through Cody Saturday. On the way to see my son in Meeteetse.

We are also going your way the first of september my folks live in Hurricane Ut.

I've been to YNP many times over the past 30 years..... we enjoy the park early in the spring before most of the campgrounds open for the summer and part of the roads are closed due to snow in the park. . Very late April thru mid May, based on the weather report 2 or 3 weeks before we leave. .

That time of the year its time for re-newel... . young bear, bison, elk are abound in the park and their's few people to spoil the fun... .

That said we usually stay out of the North Entrance, a good bit closer to the fun of Yellowstone than the trip in from Cody.....

We like to take usually 10 days to see the park, photograph the new season and sort of poke along at our own pace... we really enjoy the museum out the west entrance, there is a wold and bear exhibit, and of course time to spend some time eating in Yellowstone Lodge...

The Buffalo Bill Museum is great... . and we've done that many times but the park itself is what its all about... sometimes we split our time between Yellowstone and Grand Teton... . we've fished the Yellowstone river... . open the year around and visited the two ghost towns not from Ennis... . there's some great fishing along the rivers in and around Ennis... .

We've done Bearcreek pass on a motorcycle 3 times and decided we'd never take our 5er over this route... . especially in the summer... . too many crazies that can cause problems...

Just our thoughts... ...

This topic comes at a good time for me as we will be leaving for YNP this weekend. We will meet my sister and her husband at Yellowstone Valley Inn west of Cody.

They have been to Yellowstone before and know there way around better then me as we have never been there. As usual we will not spend enough time there.

Keep the information coming.

Thanks

Stan
