I knew all about the vp 44 before I bought the truck, but 12v with the options I wanted are very few and far between. So here I am facing a dilemma: To change the pump out now before vacation, or chance it and maybe do it along side the road in the middle of Nevada.

When I bought the truck unknown to either the seller or me the lift pump was out, dead. I probably drove it 300 miles before I noticed it blubbering when you stuck your foot in it. Found out the lift pump was dead (who knows for how long) and replaced it with a Fass. It has not skipped a beat since (3400 miles). I have not towed anything heavy to really put a load on it, but last weekend on a 500 mile trip with 1000 lbs in the back I romped on it up some hills, and never skipped a beat. Maybe without being bombed it will survive the bad lift pump experience.

I hate to change out a perfectly good part but would rather do it at home than along side the road. Those of you who have had your pumps fail what do you think? What would you do? I have been trying to determine if the pump has ever been rebuilt and the only thing out of the ordinary is a blue dot to the front of the flat spot by the pump numbers. Not sure if this is any indication. Let me know what you think.
