I have bad good story to tell. The truck in my sig is wrecked. I have to take a trip through a piece of concrete to avoid hitting a little girl, driving a little car, that was in my lane talking on her cell phone through a construction zone. Tore the underside out of the 97..... :{:{:{:{:{:{:{:{, I really am going to miss that truck. But I now have an 04' 3500 dually Quad long bed, auto, 2wd. It is a REALLY clean used truck with 37K miles. I am now a 3rd gen'er. So... . tell me what I should do first. .
I am not looking for more power just want good MPG and reliability.

So. Thanks for the help in advance and I look forward to posting as a new 3rd gen owner..... I hope;)

Leave it Stock? In all reality alot of guys really like the Smarty, I personally run one myself and am quite happy with it. The TST PowerMax seems to be right up there as well and stacks well with the Smarty. Then there's all the standard items like intake's (I run the AFE Stage 2 w/PG7 and like it alot, really lets the turbo scream), Gauges, Amsoil, Bypass Oil Filtration, and so on.

Im not certain that any of it will add significant mileage increases through. .

If I owned that truck (which I would like to... )

Lowered on airbags.

Windows tinted all around.

24s all around (the big rig kind, not the bling kind) with commercial grade tires.

GPS Nav in the dash with a decent set of speakers, sub in the console and an amp.

Recaro seats in the front (trust me you will need them VERY soon) and Katzskin leather for the rear seats. I used a Mastercraft off-road seat and it is a huge improvement. Took about an hour to weld on adapter brackets and then bolted to the stock seat base so I still have all my power controls. Now I need to get un-lazy and make a mounting bracket for the controls since the old bracket attached to the seat itself.

Replace the factory carpet with the commercial grade rubber flooring (but keep the nice carpet floor mats. ) This one is debatable but after my friends borrowed my truck and their daughter spilled soda on the rear carpet, I am a believer. Also makes it easy to clean when I take the dogs with me.

Boost and pyro gauges in the column mount from Autometer.

$8000 at Banks (there is a fuel mileage setting. )

That will probably do for a start.

banks is bunk... ... . go smarty or quad(amazing customer service!!! does banks even have a phone number or are they too big for that now) or TST... . oh and a lift pump like the Glacier diesel 392 kit will keep you a'rollin

This topic really, really burns me and makes my blood boil. I bet the first thing she did was call her friend after that happend. "Like oh my gosh, like this big truck totally went off the road and hit some big rock". I dont think twice about people on a cell phone. Ignorant and unconcious cell phone users deserve a loud horn and a blaring straight pipe pointed at their window. An emergency I can understand. But anything else can wait. What has the American society come to? Look at the P. Hilton b. s. ! And I work for a company where my European counterparts don't share all information because of liability in the American courts! Dumb people suck! NHAYS didnt just loose his truck, he lost what he had fun doing in his spare time for the past xx years. Sorry for your loss dude, a hard way to say welcome to the third gen world.

I have been very happy with the mileage on my '05 with an edge w/ attitude on the mileage setting. Hand calc'd a 900 mile avereage of 19. 5 to over 20 mpg, unloaded. City and Hwy driving. I have had better on trips where I have been limited to 55-65. 3. 73's and stock tires help too. More stuff in my sig. Just can't make it sound like a 1st/2nd gen. though.

To bomb or not to bomb.

I added the Edge/Attitude and have been happy with it. I like the safety of a system that monitors things like rail pressure, EGT, transmission slip, and will back itself off if it hits the maximums that I have programed in. As with any engine mod you will void any factory warranty so keeping all the parts together becomes important. I have been running my Edge on the 60 additional horsepower setting for 30,000 and have had no problems.

I picked up almost 2mpg (hand calculated) on my '06 with the Smarty... lower EGT's up to 100hp. Load it up and forget it. Load the factory program if you have to have warranty work done
