Weellll, just got done replacing the rear axle cover gasket to make it quit leaking, and opened up an expensive can of worms :-{} I have known for some time now that something has been up in the rear end, and for my birthday I got to find out. Four of the bolts that hold the ring gear to the differential just backed out :( Yup, the local truck shop would not give me an estimate, they said that I would be better off finding a whole dana 70 out of a salvage yard an have it rebuilt.

Yeah, so here I am just asking for your input again trying to figure out the next step.

Thanks,

Russell

Finding one out of a wrecked truck should be no problem... Maybe you can even find a Dana 80 to put in there. :D

Check out www.fosterauto.com for parts. I have been there, and they have EVERYTHING you could dream of, in terms of used parts. Some with only a few hundred miles! :D

Did the diff case get damaged? My dana 70 broke the teeth off of the ring and pinion, so I decided to install the stronger dana 80. It was expensive to get, not to mention the u bolts and custom shock mounts. Also had to modify rims to make work. Should of rebuilt my 70, it would of been cheaper! Oh well. Good luck!

Thanks for the info guys! I don't know what I am going to do yet, but I might order an axle from Boyce Equipment.

Evan, did you see that nice :--) 1997 3500 4X4 Cummins under the salvage vehicle section, nice price, and I can't find anything wrong with it. :D

Foster's has all kinds of good stuff... Had a bunch of PSD's (60 or so) just laying around. Complete with ECM and wiring harness... $4000. :D Good deal. If you call, be sure to ask for Steve.
