While waxing my new truck, I grabbed a rag that unbeknownst to me had some ucky hard stuff on/in the terry cloth and made some shallow scratches in the clear coat #ad

It is a small area, minor and hard to see unless the light is just right, but I have no experience with clear coats and don't know what to do. #ad

Rubbing compound? Wax/cleaner? Something else? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I was going to say something about the lack of paint ( maybe 1/4 mil ) but I won't because that wont help you . But with so little paint on the truck you might want to consider not doing any thing. If you do any thing it will remove paint. I dont think you will want your truck looking like it came off a gypo used car lot in a couple of years all splochy where the clear coat has been buffed through.
Just my thoughts.

Davidson,

Try Mequires (I think thats how it is spelled)3 step process to wax your truck. It should help make the scratch less noticable.

Davison, I have no experience with these really new *bad paint* Rams, but for a normal paint vehicle the procedure is pretty straight forward: using 1000 or 1200 paper, wet sand lightly long-ways WITH the scratch, not cross-ways. Between your hand and the wet paper, use a rubber mat. This spreads the load and wont leave finger marks. Use light pressure... maybe only the weight of your hand. Only rub about 4 or 5 times (back and forth) at most between CLOSE examination! This will be no more than a 3 to 5 minute deal... dont get carried away. Use light compound and terry towel, again... long ways with the scratch to polish out the sanding marks. Finish off with something very light... I suggest 3M Imperial Hand Glaze. If you need more help, e mail me!

Don't Panic! It's a piece of cake to fix. Get some superfine grit compound made for removing scratches. I get the stuff from Griots Garage, works great and you'll never know it was there...

Mcguires (sp) has a product for sealing called glaz. Workes wonderful to seal minor scratches in clear coat. I have used all there products for years and am happy... Good Luck. . I also agree with others and would not use polish or compound. . Clear coat is to thin. Mcguires clay would also work well for scratches...
