york compressor mount

I'm looking at mounting a york compressor on the motor so I can have on board air for the air bags as well as airing up tires and using tools, but most of all TRAIN HORNS. Kilby Enterprize makes a kit for gen 2 motors but not sure about the gen 3 motor.

I'm sure there's some medium duty trucks that have air compressors mounted on these engines. Check with a Cummins dealer an appropriate application.

I asked him a while back and he hinted that he may be up to something now that he had a 3rd gen.

The prob with the '03's is the OEM air box. I need to find an aftermarket intake system that allows more room for the compressor to sit where the alternator is now. I know there are a few companies that make aftermarket systems but I haven't had time lately look into them and see if they allow more room or not. I really hope there is something available now or in the very near future because I don't want to get into the business of making intake systems.



Other than the air box, the KE-3000 would fit for the most part BUT the new alternators use a different mounting bolt pattern than the previous models. This may or may not pose a problem. Won't know until I tear my truck apart and see what I can come up with.

You probably could. I don't see why you would though if you can just mount it to the engine.

It depends on what you want to do with the air compressor. If it's for air brakes, then you'd have to run it off the engine. If it's just to fill a tank for an air horn or an occassional tire fill, then electric would be the best to and easiest. If you want a serious air compressor for painting, sandblasting, etc, then mount it in the bed and drive it with v-belts off the pto. Heck then you could put all your horsepower into a big compressor. .

Most of the guys I talk to want to air up tires and run air tools for the most part. The occasional air horn is an added bonus. Wasting space in the bed of the truck isn't necessary if you use the right engine driven compressor.

Airconditioning. It doesn't really matter which vehicle though because I sell the compressors too. ;-)

I have found many York 210 compressors in 1970s and early 1980s Volvos. As far as I know the 210 is the preferred compressor to work with the Kilby mounting kits.
