I was looking on some web sites and I stumbled on to this... ... ... ... Tst has dyno tested many after market Items such as low restriction air filters & mufflers, complete 4" exhaust systems, turbine housings & complete turbo chargers; and has found nothing that helps reduce Exhaust manifold or piston temperatures... ... .

What gives? Im really confused Now. . Are we buying things we dont need... . our the manufacturers just trying to sell more products?

you have to take that comment with a grain of salt.

He (Mark) doesn't believe in aftermarket fliters or exhaust. and what is meant by that comment is that they havent found anything that is worth the money spent on them (HP/$ gain) that reduces heat enough to justify the cost of it, based on that one aspect of the part.

if your looking for a different sound, that is another topic.

As Ted J. said some dynos cannot put enough load on the truck to produce accurate results. I don't know for sure, but this sure seem logical to me.

Need or Want?

Gents:

I have to say I probably didn't need any of my accessories, but I sure did want 'em and sure do like 'em.

Honestly, I wished I would have base lined my truck and measured each improvement. I slapped on the BD exhaust and TST Powermax at the same time.

I ran mine w/out a muffler for a while, but it sounded like an Army duece and a half. The sound of that 4" Walker sure is nice, especially when pulling my 15K lb 5th wheel. I get lots of looks when I'm cruising.

Combinations.......

That would be the key. What combination of boxes and injectors are you running. Stock and just a better filter will see no gain, same with a larger exhaust. As far as the exhaust is concerned your not going to gain much HP. Sound is a lot nicer. But they do lower EGT's when you start adding the horsies. At what point is it necessary? Get gauges first and then you'll know.

What Garrett Said

I absolutely saw a drop of EGTs after installing 4" exhaust, however this was pre-bombing since that was the overwhelming recommendation here on TDR.

If you want to go without exhaust or intake mods, that is your choice and, who knows, maybe with your application it will be just fine. But invest in the gauges to make sure. That way you'll never have to be sorry.

EGT gauge if nothing else!

Hiperf360 put down 445hp and 1080 ft lbs through stock pipe with a Dynomax race mag muffler... still had the resonator on it also. Dyno in the highest gear you can to get a good load. I think Jons truck was loaded pretty good. . it was lifting the front of the truck up alot when the boost came in

Yea you don't need 5" stacks either;) :D . I have noticed even lower E. G. T. s with mine over the 4" bully dog. Of course there's absolutely no restriction anymore:) . Doug
