NEW TO WEB SITE BUT NOT TO TRUCKS IS THERE A CONTEST TO TEAR UP TRUCKS THAT I DONT KNOW ABOUT. FOR THE AMOUNT OF MILES SOME OF YOU HAVE ON YOUR TRUCK AND THE PROBLEMS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RITE BECAUSE MINE IS JUST LIKE IT CAME OUT OF THE FACTORY AND IS SITLL RUNNING FINE:rolleyes:

Well, if your bragging about your truck, you may as well let us know what truck it is by filling out your signature with your truck info.

And if you are bragging about your miles, you may as well let us know how many miles are on your truck, as well as what kind of driving or hauling you do.

And instead of simply bragging, you could also tell us what you think that you are doing right, besides keeping it stock.

Not that there is anything wrong with bragging...

I have been fortunate also. Other than oil, all filters and a headlight bulb, the only thing I have changed was my lift pump to the Glacier Walbro. I only changed it at 85,000 miles for preventive reasons. My truck has been all highway miles with one heavy tow in 06 from TX to MD. I have 115,000 miles now. I am getting ready to put the Dynatrac kit on and change the axle u-joints at the end of the month. The axle joints are finally getting squeeky.

Warning this is negative... .
This post couldn't come at a worse time.
Here is my rant.
My truck is treated like a king.
All synthetic fluids,greased before due,washed 2wice a week,all fluids flushed before due(steering,brakes,coolant),Driven daily like an old man,Fuel from a busy station,etc.
I think I'm wasting my time and money and should start beating this truck as it is always needing repair now that its worn out at 38k :(
Power steering pump 37k
Steering box 37k
Ac blend door 28k
Ac recharge 30k
Now at 38k leaking transfer case input seal... ... ...

If you really wanted to pull all the high mileage guys out of the wood work, you came to the right place my friend. It seems that from my tenure of reading the TDR many of the members use their trucks for near commercial applications while others of us just drive a lot. I put over 200K on my 98. 5 with minimal repairs/issues. I have yet to own another CTD for that length of time. I do plan to keep my current truck for the next 2-4 years (until I can save up for the 07 - 5. 9 - 6-speed - in electric Blue!!!!

Additionally, unlike other forums you will find the members of the TDR really get into PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. When PM's are done early or on time routinely you will hear quite a bit more of the "finer points" coming out in the air. Just my $. 02

As said above they are reliable. It depends on the person behind the wheel and the mods they've done.

Now i can't claim mileage as i've only got around 25k on my 04. The only problem it has now is its throwing a code and i haven't had time to get it cleared. What i really need is a smarty:-laf.

Your going to get mixed comments on this. Everyone's different and they'll let you know what's on their mind. :)-{})

By the way, welcome to the club.

Just my $0. 02

I have 106K on mine and only a lift pump at 70,000. It gets washed once a year whether it needs it or not (or when it rains). Other than a tear in the vinyl on the console lid (because my knife fell on the lid and poked a hole in it, my interior is sharp. The paint is so-so (partly because its Patriot Blue, partly because it got keyed several years ago). On the whole, it still looks pretty good.

We are setting outon a 5,000 mile trip around the southern, soutwestern, and plains states at the end of the moth and I am looking forward to it!

Mustang Diesel - I have the PSM also. It helped lower my egts about 150° when loaded. I have been happy with it since I put it in (about 50k miles ago).

500,000kms (310,000 k ) Same vp-44 and injectors. The only components replaced on the engine apps and alternator both around 250,000k. Truck has no mods except 4in s. s. exhaust. Transmission and differential are original. Parts replaced are the usual things that wear out, ie. brakes, tires batteries. wheel bearings etc.

I go along with BIGNASTY. Your vehicle should be treated like the woman you love. Handle with care, don't hurry her along, and don't put to much on her that she can't handle. My success record. Never blew a engine, clutch, rear end. The only transmission I blew were old three speeds that I put to much motor behind them. At five dollars a piece in wrecking yards in those days. What the heck. Don't know what you guys and gals do for a living but I'm retired and if I had to pay $1800 for six pistons I'd either have to saddle up or peddle down. But what the heck it's your money.

If you mod it like crazy for HP then it's widely accepted that the more HP = shorter engine life. I don't know what that breaking point is for the 5. 9l but I assume it's when you go beyond the 350HP range that this engine become more of a race engine than long lasting tow engine. It depends on what you want. I choose long life. I've only added and edge ez. I've had it for 50,000 miles while before me I was told it was stock. All Preventative Maintenance completed and going strong at 155,000 miles. My towing has increase also and I swear it just gets stronger as if it like towing and not being empty. Welcome to the club and decide if you're going to race or tow:D.

I agree, the more we mod, the shorter the life. But, it does depend on how you drive. My '95 Dyno'ed around 350hp. Spun my first clutch the first day I install my TST plate. Put my foot in it at 55mph and it was all over, but I did have 190k on it then. Put in a Centerforce and ran until 392k. Saw it on the road the other day, over 400k now. My current truck has 157k with all the mods below. Thought I had a 48RE problem and switch VB, but it ended up being my setup on the Smarty. All is good now. I pull twice a week <10,000lb. I have pulled a 45ft GN with 330 square bales out of a pasture. the hay weighed over 19k and the trailer is over 8k. Also have hauled 17 - 5x6 round bales (100lbs) on the same trailer. I ease into it and ease back out, no trouble so far. But even if it quit now, I'd have the say the 48RE has done well for me. :)

I have always been told diesel engine life is directly related to gallons burned. . So more hp= shorter life... we would probably all agree there. Its not uncommon for large engines to use gallons burned for service intervals for that reason. Another thing I have seen Cat do on their marine engines is a "cat" hour meter. On the 3406C (E rated) my dad had in his commercial boat 1600 rpms turned the "cat" hour meter at a 1:1, less than 1600 rpms it turned slower, and faster it turned faster (i. e. 1 hour at 1900 rpms would be more than 1 cat hour)...

So where is the OP now? Sounds like he is just stirring the pot to me.
