MIND GAME

2% or 98%

This is strange... can you figure it out?

Are you the 2% or 98% of the population?

Follow the instructions! NO PEEKING AHEAD!

* Do the following exercise, guaranteed to raise an eyebrow,

* There's no trick or surprise.

* Just follow these instructions, and answer the questions one at a time and as quickly as you can!

* Again, as quickly as you can but don't advance until you've done each of them ... really. You may need pencil and paper.

* Now, scroll down (but not too fast, you might miss something).

Think of a number from 1 to 10

Multiply that number by 9

If the number is a 2-digit number, add the digits together

Now subtract 5

Determine which letter in the alphabet corresponds to the number you ended up with

(example: 1=a, 2=b, 3=c,etc. )

Think of a country that starts with that letter

Remember the last letter of the name of that country

Think of the name of an animal that starts with that letter

Remember the last letter in the name of that animal

Think of the name of a fruit that starts with that letter

Are you thinking of a Kangaroo in Denmark eating an Orange?

I told you this was FREAKY!! If not, you're among the 2% of the population whose minds are different enough to think of something else. 98% of people will answer with kangaroos in Denmark when given this exercise. Keep this message going. . This one is actually worth sending on to others.

Um... . better check your math skills... (either that or I need to). If I did it correctly, every combination will leave you with the letter 'd' when it comes time to choose a country.

I have tested this on a few people here at work... the key is to come up with answers QUICK! The directions do say "as quickly as you can". If you stop to think like a few people did here, you come up with different answers...

I came up with Denmark, Kangaroo and Orange.

I'm in the 98%, but never knew Denmark had Kangaroos. Sure glad to know I'm not in the 2% that thinks too slow to get it! :-laf

I think the key is the limited number of countries starting with the letter D (Denmark) followed by the limited number of animals starting with K, and so on. As long as the initial entry point is 4, then the rest is pretty obvious.

This would be a good trick for a 'mind reader'.

You are right this is more of a trick than a coincidence. No matter what number you select 1-10 you will always wind up with the number 4 given the sequence of equations listed.

Once "D" has been selected you are choosing between Denmark, Dominican Republic, Dominica, and the ever-popular Djibouti. --Most choose Denmark

How many popular animal names start with K? Kangaroo is the only common one I can think of. I guess some might say Koala, but I am sure that Kangaroo is by far the best-known animal starting with K

Aside from the Olive, the Orange is the only fruit the I know of that starts with O.

So, really the 98% is not surprising

Fun exercise. I wonder if I can trick my wife... ... .

what if you picked 1, and only had a single digit, and couldn't add the two, I had to pick a different numbe at first. Oh well, they all add up to 9-5=4.

Heck - was typing mine when you replied.

The instructions say "If the number is a 2-digit number, add the digits together". If it's a single digit (i. e. 9), no adding.
