Interesting!!

towed 3500

From the GM site on the topic of an injector leaking fuel into the engine oil:

http://forum.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=004791

"I was wanting to keep an old injector but there is a $100 core on them, they cost $500 a piece, lower valve cover gasket cost $104, and this fuel line was $94, w/o the line,labor, or anything else parts bill right now is just over $2000. 00"

The cost of Duramax parts sounds like an excellent reason to keep our Cummins/Case/Freightliner/etc parts supply. The GM site also talks of new Allisons costing $7,000 - $10,000!!!!!

That ain't nothing just bought a set of parking brake shoes for a Caterpillar 980C loader,$220. 00 each shoe!$440 dollars for a set. Kept looking but could not find the gold!! P. S. they aren't much bigger than the brakes on a 3500. :-{}

My friend just got his dmax back from the dealer, it lost the cam drive gear pin and took out the valves and pistons. It was a total warranty deal (12000 miles) complete new engine with turbo, injection pump ect. the work order total was nearly $15000:eek:

He only paid 31k for the truck!

Edit . . I think a 5. 9 industrial engine is around $10k. I bet a new ISB cummins from dodge would be about $15k installed.

Someone I know was quoted $6000 for a new NV5600, installed.

Be glad no one here owns a 4ws GM pickup, none of the rear steering is serviceable and a service rear costs $9500 :--)

You mean valve cover gasket... :D I could be wrong, but I didn't see any electrical connector on the 96 PSD head gasket I replaced yesterday...

I sure like being able to go to a Cummins parts outlet to buy parts instead of being forced to go to a stealer. I had to buy an upper end head gasket kit. Had to drive to Denver to be able to buy it that day, but paid ~$160. The local Dodge stealer wanted ~$450 for the exact same thing. So yes, I think DC parts are high, but agree they are cheaper than some Ford/GM equivelant parts ie valve cover gaskets.

"It is my bread and butter and ya I still like my Duramax". :rolleyes:

I hate to say it but these guys indicate the GM has a major problem. Bull. GM don't have a major problem. The owners of these trucks have a major problem. The injectors don't normally go out until well after the warranty is gone. If they do go out, you can't find replacements in the U. S. They have to be ordered. So is GM stranded while the owner waits on parts. No. The owner is stranded. $15,000 for a rebuild. :--) Give me a break. That truck would be at the bottom of a pond made from mining gravel.

Think that's bad? I was reading over at the dieselstop about one of the new 6. 0's. Not going to bash a new design. It just wasn't this guys lucky day. He was towing a trailer out of state and noticed the truck wasn't running right. He took it to a Ford dealer to get it checked and the servive tech had never even seen a new 6. 0 let alone work on one. After trying to diagnoses the problem, he pulled a valve cover off to find a broken rocker arm or something(not sure how they are set up) Anyway, they first told him since it was a new design they would be able to get the part till February! That would be my luck. By a new design motor, then not be able to get replacement parts when it breaks. :D I didn't think anyone else shared my luck. That's why I figured I better stick with something that's been around for a while that I can get parts for.

the $15000 was labor incuded for a complete new engine oil pan to turbo charger, not even a long block, the broken one was returned to gm for post mortem examination. $15k still seems high to me:rolleyes:
