New tires and wheels

What's your worst bomb?

I walked into a Dodge dealer a while back when looking for a 3500. The salesman came up and said "you looking for a Dodge?" I said "Nope, I'm looking for a Cummins, it just comes in a Dodge".

Not the friendliest thing to say, but it sounded funny in my head!

I love the "traditional" characteristics of the Cummins. It's a straight six like a tough utillity engine should be. It sounds and feels like a diesel should. I love it. Good MPG and lasts a long time.

I am open to other good things though.

(not married, can you tell!)

Amen to that! I can't even imagine someone considering a Toyletta a "real" truck. No matter what they do they will still be what they've always been, an inferior piece of recycled scrap metal. Just my . 02 worth :)

I'd like to see ANYTHING to support your opinion. . More and more people every year are realizing that Toyota makes great cars and trucks and thats why they are breaking sales records while RAISING prices and without any gimmick incentives. This is while all these domestic car companies are practically giving away their vehicles just so they can stay in business for another year. If Toyota's actually are inferior, they are pulling the biggest deception act in world history. :-laf

I guess the fact that Toyota is about to become the #1 vechicle maker in the world escaped his attention. I don't have one, but I have ridden in quite a few. Build quality was far superior to any US automaker.

They (Toys) sure don't last long here in the rust belt. I've got 20+ year old Dodges(WORK TRUCKS) with the original sheet metal... "Toylettas" (TOYS) ;) just rust apart. ... Doug

Toyota makes great cars no doubt. Their trucks have always been lacking IMO (but not as bad as Nissan's  ).

Usually the only thing that rusts is the bed on the older ones. The trucks came to the US completely assembled except for the bed which was manufatured and installed in california. Doesn't really say much for the US steel. If this guy thinks that "toy's" rust obvisouly never owned a CJ Jeep.

I know about rust pal, I maintain a fleet of utility trucks and see the effects of salt everyday. I find it hard to believe that Toys were sent without beds, but still I've seen the entire truck fall apart, of course the engine still ran ;) . My friend bought an 90? corrolla biggest rust bucket I've ever seen. Much much worse than the 89 GM we had. I laugh when I see people fawn all over imports. Yea they're O. K. but not that much better than the domestic stuff. Of course what do I know, I've only been turning wrenches for 20+ years  ... Doug

I live in the rust belt somewhat myself and I've never seen anything that would make me think that Toyotas are rust buckets any more than anything else. . That's just another BS wives tale. In the early 80's they used spot welding on the bed and that caused some rust, but that has long since been dropped.

All I can say is that if I even SEE a Dodge that is 20 years old on the road, I consider it a rare event. If they hold up so well, I don't understand why there are so many older Toyota's on the road then there are Dodge's. . I would look at the resale values if you want a fair indication of what is known to "hold up" ... Rust or not, Toyota whips Dodge in resale value. ;)

Not to start an argument because I don't really care but since you said... ... .

Just because you've been "turning wrenches for 20 years" doesn't mean a whole lot. For example Ford Motor Company was started in 1903 and they built the Pinto in the 70's and "they have been building cars for almost 70 years. " Experience doesn't make immune to ignorance.

especially after dealing with specific things for that long you become biased. I started out restoring cars and building drag cars. I loved old cars. but teh reality is that I can build a 500+whp import that gets 25+mpg average that is dependable. right now sheet metal is all about the same between domestics and imports, its all about how you take care of them. I have seen rotted mid 90's dodges that doesnt make me not like them. I have also seen imaculate 70's imports. theres no logic behind that theory. I like my truck, well the drivetrain combo anyway. Im not a big dodge fan, but a cummin and danas sells me. and it tows a 400+whp nissan 240sx. (which has too much fiberglass to rust). the import manufacturers are some of the best automotive engineers in the world, and if you "wrench" on one or two you will come to find that out. my cars a 93 and has had less problems than my 02

Lighten up fellas. I know they all rust and have their problems. What kills me is blind loyalty. Lets talk about Toys engine sludge problems and their brake problems they tried to sweep under the rug and blame on the customer. :( ... Doug

I have an 03 Sequoia, my wife loves it! I believe it's a good car and well built, but I did have the transmission go at 38k... . think that's just my luck! I will say that it hauls ***** for the 240hp on the sticker... .

Lighten up fellas. Yeah good idea pal, :p I know they all rust and have their problems. What kills me is blind loyalty. Humm ... try reading all the anti Toy comments and then lets talk about blind loyalty..... against a brand. Lets talk about Toys engine sludge problems and their brake problems they tried to sweep under the rug and blame on the customer. Yeah Dodge and the other manufacturers are perfect... rrrright! :( ... Doug

Will Toyota make a good product? Definitely. Will it be perfect? No. Will it be what Americans want? That will depend on how much homework Toyota does.

If all the haters are correct, then there is nothing to fear (so why are they getting so worked up?). If they are wrong, then the big three better get their design departments cranked up!

Imports forced us to improve build quality and there was no good reason it took us so long to catch up. Now we face an onslaught in the fullsize pickup market. We have had plenty of time to perfect the pickup truck design, so if Toyota or any of the other imports come out with a truck that kicks butt... well, shame on us! We'll just have to wait and see.

toyota's typicalls have thinner sheet metal especially in the bed's of the pickups. I worked every day for a year in a bed lining place and we got all brands in. The foreign trucks had noticeably thinner panels in the beds. I am sure it was for weight savings because the trucks seemed a lot nimbler than their domestic counter parts. I have a toyota and it's a good truck but it's not a full size truck. Toyota will make a truck that will satisfy a large portion of the market place but i don't seem them making a seriously heavy duty truck anytime soon.
