Fuel Pressure........I'm so confused.....

KDP Question

Called a stealer this morning to see if they had a lift pump in stock. The guy told me that he used to stock them; however, Chrysler has put a hold on lift pumps and they have to be special ordered. Get this, he said that in one months time, there were 5,100 dealer replaced lift pumps and only 1,900 of them were actually bad. ONLY 1,900!!!:eek: As far as I'm concerned, if 1,900 were bad, isn't that too many?

So, from now on, according to him, they have to diagnose the problem before they can order the pump. The problem for me is that the nearest Dodge stealer is 100 miles away and I'd either have to make 2 trips or leave the truck with them for a few days. :{

The problem with this scenario is that many of the dealers CAN'T diagnose the problem. It would require a pressure gauge and a tech with half a brain! :mad:

To a D/C "Mechanic/Parts-swapper" and especially to Dodge warranty bean-counters, 1psi of fuel pressure at IDLE could be a "Good" lift pump. :confused:

Sorry to hear that.........

Wonder how DC figured out that all them lift pumps werent bad????

Did they actually test them after they were removed??? I noticed on your truck it was somewhat intermitent. That's unacceptable in my opinion yet DC probably qualifies that as a good pump.

I think if mine goes out I'll try after market first. To hell with DC. Smoking Diesel has a complete upgrade, lines and all. A little pricey but worth checking out.

I'll bet the "test" was a couple of power leads. If the pumps ran, they were good????

What did they do with the "good" pumps? Recycle them???

Well I called Carson Dodge today and told them that my Fuel Pressure was down to 3PSI at WOT and they didn't even argue. They did ask for my VIN and and another number that is on the block. They said that they had to have this info because it was considered a star part and had to prove that it was bad. Hopefully they are not filling me full of BS. This is the first time I have gone to this dealer since he is 35 miles away but I have heard he is good. We will see what happens

I carry a spare with me. I am only 20 minutes from a dealer but i can change it in less time than it takes to get there, wait and get back. I buy mine from a local Cummins dealer.

Geez, with all these failures and carrying of spares, has anyone looked into case- or pallet-lot pricing?

Had my lift pump replaced a couple of months ago. According to the dealer then the lift pump was off restriction. This meant that they could replace it without proir approval from DC. Also at that time the pumps were on a 45 day backorder. Luckily the pump they installed was located at another dealer.

Well--started having the pump take 5-10 miles in the mornings to get up to normal (above 10 psi) and at WOT would not even read... took it to my stealer in afternoon after work one day--told them about mornings and ask them to check it--came back as O. K. 10 psi idle--7 psi WOT..... explained that problem was in morning and they said---well you get the idea--got 42K on "Thumper" so guess when lift and big pump go they can replace it all!!!!!!!!!
