Your Thoughts????

Time is drawing near to having to replace front brake pads and rear brake shows on 99 Q. C 2x4 3500 which is used to tow my 5th. Now approx 68000 miles . Should I stay with O. E. M. brake parts or go with top line after market ,if after market what brands or makes are suggested???? Your advise and thoughts would be appreciated. :-{}
 
I spent the big $$$ and went with the top of the line aftermarket carbon kevlar pads and SS lines from EGR. Did they stop better? Yes, $$that$$ much better? Not in my opinion. I would not go back to OEM, for that money you can do better.

I am running Sam's pads. They work great and even come with new caliper pins and boots. Brake dust seems to be down too. :)

Brake lines

Does anyone have any experience with how much, if any, difference changing to the braded steel EGR lines makes?? Been thinking about that when it's time to change my pads.

I think braided hoses for the average person are useless. However, they do serve a purpose. If you tow a lot, especially on graded hills i think these lines could prove themselves invaluable. Standard rubber lines suck, they swell when hot and crack when old, botto line it they just don't perform well under stress.



Ideally you'd want steel hard lines all the way to the caliper, no energy lost to expansion. Unfortunatly people kind of want a nice ride and with that come suspension and the impossibilty of doing just that. SO, I think SS lines can be valuable to the right person, evaluate whether or not you justify them. You won't be able to tell the difference driving to get milk at the store. Chuck a 10000 lb trailer and a 6% grade i think you will see night and day. PLus they just last a lot longer as well.
 
i just went with the lifetime warranty metallic pad from auto-zone and they have worked great for about 40000 miles so far...

I installed them on my 96. They do make a difference- as was pointed out, most noticeably on a grade where you are more apt to be on the brakes. I dispute one thing though- you will notice them driving around town too, at least I did. The pedal is much firmer and more responsive.



Echoing what was said, you need to evaluate whether or not it's worth it to you and your specific application. I installed the whole EGR package, and while I really like the pads and the increased stopping power, I don't think it was worth it money wise. I sold the truck before I had a chance to see about longevity, but had I to do over again from the start I would have installed a good aftermarket pad and saved my money for an E brake.

I am just about through my second set of Performance Friction Carbon Metallics from Autozone. They work great, and last a long time without eating the rotors. They also have a lifetime warranty.
 
since brake pads are easy to change and take all of 30 mins, i get the cheapest pads from autozone with lifetime warrenty. every year i pull them off take the olds in and exchange them for new ones with no cost. works great for me
