Intercooler = Paint it or no paint?

Anybody use these turbo hoses?

My philosophy has always been that as you conduct routine repairs, service and maintenance, you sieze the opportunity to upgrade, improve and increase the abilities of the truck/car/boat in question. Buy the best and make it better. It helps to defray the cost of ownership. Make it mine and fun to drive.

.

Box stock she can pull spots off a leopard. Well designed enough to out live (while towing) an elephant. But every thing you can do has an outstanding tangible return in performace, longevity, unequalled by any other toy in my past.

So Master, please be gracious if grasshoppers eyes fall upon

a stock, unaltered, virgin CTD and he feels short of breath, pulse rapid , sweaty palms, becomes lucid, and lusts for her as she is, unaltered.

Point of this dribble?

Even though they are a breeze to modify, and get outstanding results easily, we should appreciate the stocker(1st, 2nd, 3rd gens). for what they are: million mile, high performance trucks :-laf

for the 2nd gens get gauges, (FUEL PRESSURE, PYRO, boost, trany, temp) Intake and exhaust, then a good chip would be an awesome start, If you feel the need for more then the transmission, a pusher pump, a good set of injectors and a turbo would be a screamer!

if I ever owned a stock truck, it would be for however long it took for me to drive it home... the mods would begin instantly thereafter.

there's always a bigger leopard or elephant...

life is short and engines can be rebuilt/replaced... dig in and have fun!

Ill second that boys, my 01 was chipped before I drove it off the lot, And I had gauges all ready to go about a month before I had the truck, then exhaust and intake the same week, Had to wait on the chip because it wasnt quite ready yet but I had the first one for the 600's from TST.

OOOoooommm! :)

I'll second that cyborg. All my trucks have been stockers, bomb wise, and I've been deeply satisfied,... nay... at peace. :p

OOOoooommm! :)

My personal truck is a blast to drive. My stock 5sp work truck is a flat out dog. Pasing others in it is a planned event. There is no substitute for butt kickin' HP.

hate to break it to you, but there IS a replacement for displacement...

it's called BOOST!!!

OK then - How about a supercharger? I've always been partial to blowers. Used to have a '54 Ferd 4-door sedan with a T-Bird Y-block, cam, stroker, McCullogh blower, etc, etc. Alternate intake setup was 3x2 bbls. Ate '57 Chebbies for breakfast. Got to where I could R&R the U-joints blindfolded in about 10 minutes.

Yes ,indeed, life is short and I don't intend on spending any time working on or modifying a sufficiently powered, super reliable, million mile engine. Why? I am too busy driving this dream.

As far as the bored out 5. 9, how about just droppin' in an 8. 3? :D

I already called 1-800-diesels on that. Asked if the "Double Overhead Cummins" would fit in my truck. The guy said, "Sure... in the bed, maybe. " :D

Through out the 80s, much of the 90s I drove a 69 Power Wagon(army surplus), when the slant six gave out, I built a hot rod 318. 100% reliable. Was looking at putting a perkins in when all this cummins bullshot broke out.

I remember my girl friend quiped about me liking to work on my trucks. I answered her back that I would rather maintain it in my shop, than fix it on the road.

There are only two vehicle I don't like working on: Mine and everyone elses!

It reminds me of my Beemer Boxer days. Yeh, they may pass me whilst I'm purring down the road.

But the power plant in this baby is, like, totally awesome man - and THEY KNOW it

(at least I got my self convinced THEY KNOW it, and thats what counts) :D
