Been working on flushing the antifreeze out of the Dodge, now were are at the point we need the new stuff... WalMart, O'Rilley's, Autozone, & Advanced Auto don't have it & claim they cant get it. Closest NAPA store is 105 miles away. Amazon lists it for $22 & change, with free shipping per gallon. (Boy has antifreeze gone up!) Any ideas??? Thanks!!

One thing I might add. Get the premixed so you don't have to worry about the water quality. I got an extra gallon of straight to add if it wound up weak for any reason.

I opened a heater hose line. . installed a tee... and ran water through the tee and out the radiator cap... once it ran clean I opened the petcock on the radiator and than pushed air... @15 psi through the tee until it blew out most of the water... closed up the radiator & tee and poured in the fresh anti-freeze and than added back distilled water until it was full... . ran it down the road until it came up to temperature and once it had burped out the air, recharged the over flow tank... As I remember I used the GO5 product as well.....

If you have not started the job, the only caution is that blankety blank radiator drain plug. Good advice might be to not touch it, siphon somehow. 2nd advice just turn it maybe just enough to start a trickle, don't turn it a bunch thinking that taking it out is a good idea, can lead to a lot of why did I do that syndrome. I have one of the only never been installed OE drain plugs on my shelf. At the time it took me like 6 months to get one as a backup.

If you're not careful with the plug, next post will be how do it get it to thread in?

This Man has wrote the best procedure for the changing of coolant that I have seen, I have changed mine twice and sons twice using this procedure and it proves to be a GREAT WAT TO GET IT RIGHT!!!!! look it up even if your not going to do it his way its an EXCELLENT READ!!! from AH64ID

Second gen rad plugs turn and screw out. Replace the o-ring and use silicone grease on it. Third gen have a flat rubber seal and they just thread out.

The problem that I and several others experienced was that the drain plug nut just turns endlessly if you unscrew the wing bolt out too far. If you can avoid this hassle, I think you'll have a better day.

If you want to stick with the Mopar it is 05066386AA and retail is $22. 70 per gallon if the dealer is selling at retail.

I got Valvoline max life on sale at Autozone, supposed to be compatible with everything.

Joe, we have been told here on TDR for 4 forevers the importance of using Zerex G 5. Why/how is this different from all the other one-size-fits-all antifreezes? Does this meet the called for specs? If not, for YOU to say this blows me away!! Mark

Yep, that's what I used with distilled water. No worries about compatibility and purchased it from my local dealer parts department for less than $22. 70/gallon.

Ya know what... Me too. I've only seen the Prestone all makes all color AF and it was pushed onto me at autozone when I was searching for GO5. I wound up having to challenge the peers guy to show me where on the bottle or anywhere else the coolant meets spec. He couldn't. I walked.

Yep, it makes me wonder how much of a bonus they receive for selling that one size fits all stuff.

If you plan to keep your truck and aren't adverse to the up-front cost, consider switching to NPG. Having the cooling system opened for another repair may be a good time for the switchover, as all water has to be removed from the cooling system. It eliminates problems with cavitation, corrosion, and overheating, as it boils at 370* at 0 psi. It is also billed as a lifetime coolant. I already installed it in my standby generator and it seems to work fine. www.evanscooling.com.
