The Aisin 6 speed is a direct knockoff of a 1000 series Allison. They come in for a plant tour, and whaddyaknow 2 years later they have a carbon copy... They'll have to do their homework on the controls. . It's not as easy as one might think.





LMAO!! Slip shift and defuel to keep the trans intact and STILL puke themelves under hard use. Some 500+ flashes for the Ford and 300 for Chevy over a 3 year period while DC did about 35. Oh yeah!! great performing transmission. Stoplight to stoplight they were great, worthless for real work. Definitely "better" than anything DC offered. :rolleyes:



AISIN has a pretty good rep for building auto transmissions for medium duty trucks. I would hazard a guess its a bit better than the Ally 1000 in the Chevy. I am sure a quick tour of production got them all the secrets. :-laf

Bolting it in will be the easy part. The ECU was speeded up and considerably enhanced for these new autos. There is no way the older ECU's will handle it so a stand alone controller, similar to ATS's solution for the 4xRE transmissions, will be needed. It will all depend on cost to the end user and the demand the aftermarket will generate whether anybody will develop a solution.
 
Umm. . 35 reflashes for DC vs 300 for GM. .



Well you can't reflash a trans that is fully mechanical. The only thing on a 48RE that is truly electronic is the EPC and TTVA . Other than that it's just on off solenoids. I can shift that trans with a couple toggle switches. No need for a reflash because you'd be sending 1's and 0's at a dumb trans. How much power can you put through a 48RE before it takes a crap. Better yet, how much of that power gets to the ground. Not too much. See you on the dragstrip!



ECU speed is all marketing bs. . You really think you need an 80mhz computer to control a few solenoids? You can do it at 1mhz and still be fine. 1 million cycles per second is plenty to compute when to turn a solenoid on or off. There's no need for complex clutch to clutch computing in a DC trans. They're all mechanical! They've been mildly electrified but nothing major.

Notice the "full electronic control". If it's controlled by the ECM (like the 06), not a separate computer, that makes it tougher to come up with a stand alone computer.
 
I wonder why the 6sp manual is rated for 610 lbs. of torque and the auto is rated at 650? I would think it would be the opposite as in the previous years.
