Continuing Engine Problems for Ford

I was lookin at some lift kits for the older dodges tonight, and was reading the different year/weight requirements for the lifts, and i see there is a w150 with "(diesel)" writtin beside it. All ive been able to dig up is that there was a 78-79 4. 0 liter inline six diesel in a w150. cant find any pictures or engine manufacture info.

have any of yall heard bout this or know anything about it?

just thought it was interesting. as far as i knew, i thought cummins was the first and only diesel dodge ever used in their trucks. am i wrong?

Yeah, it was a 243ci diesel (im thinking it was a perkins but not sure) and totally gutless. My dad used to deliver feed to a guy that bought a new one for farm use. He said Chysler told him when he bought it not to tow anything with it. He also said it vibrated so bad that he was surprised it hadn't fallen apart.

I remember those trucks, and if I remember correctly they were Perkins engines in them. I never drove one, but if it was the same engine as used in an Oliver 1855 tractor, it was running about 100 HP, not really enough for a pickup.

Met a guy with a shortbed regular cab 4x2 Ram with one of those. Really liked the truck even though it was gutless. Mostly used it for ubran driving and got around 25 MPG. Had like 280,000 miles on it.

Dodge used the Perkins 354 C. I. D. Nat. asp. diesel in the early 70's Power wagons and the 500 and 600 medium duty trucks as an option to the ol' 318 poly wide and the 361. Some of the bigger Dodges had 855 Cummins engines and some had the triple knickle 555 turbo V-8. And even still I believe some of the Dodge Big Horn semis used the KT 1150 C. I. D. inline sixes. Some used 2 cycle Detroits, but I never held that against them!
