I was just reading this thread at the Diesel Stop and it made me wonder about the tailpipe temperatures on the new 6. 7l during regeneration.

Are there warnings about parking in the grass in the 6. 7 owners manual?

There are no special warnings about the 6. 7 engine. It is identical to the warning on the gas engine. It basically says to not park on anything that could catch on fire. It says nothing about the regen operation.

I will agree with what they say on the Diesel Stop, you can't hold your hand by the exhaust when it is going through a "burn". Also, it will do a "burn" while you are sitting still and idleing.

The tailpipe tips on the new diesels are "different" from the normal one piece pipe. It is kind of a pipe within a pipe. I'm sure heat is the issue. I saw the Ford one up close at the Detroit auto show and it is way wierd.

The pipe from turbo to cat converter is 4" inside & duel wall, regeneration

can only happen when, road speed is above 50mph & can take 40 min.

per tech info. overhead display has a warning when regeneration

is needed .

But don't you think you could

be driving at 50 mph - like GOING TO THE WOODS and or Fields and drive then this unit into a very deadly fire combination - I mean it doesn't know how long you will be travelling - at what speed... ... unless it can read your mind..... I see where it could start and stop a lot if you have a bunch or modest trips say 5-10 miles... ...

I'll have to disagree with that. My C & C has gone through the regen mode a number of times at speeds less than 50 mph and one time while stopped at idle. Also the overhead has never shown any warning and it only takes 15 - 30 seconds to complete the burn. The overhead is supposed to give a warning when the particulate filter is 80% or more full, not when it is going into the regen mode.

Engineering claims will only do regen while driving???? Are you sure it is doing it at idle? There has also been a lot of software updates since the non production versions.

I have been told 1600 degrees. The turbo is also water cooled with the biggest water jackets around the VGT actuator(electric motor).

Mine was easy to tell when it was doing a regen because when I got mine there was no ULSD available in the area and it would smoke when it was doing a burn. (regen) We finally have ULSD in the area and it isn't noticeable anymore. If you do a lot of idleing you will have more active regen events than if you are pulling. One of the times mine did it at idle was after an hour and a half waiting to get unloaded at an oil rig. Another time was just after I left a rig after idleing for a long time. As far as am I sure it is doing a regen, yes, go around and stick your hand a couple of feet from the tip of the exhaust pipe, believe me, you will know. Also the tip of the exhaust on my C & C is the same as any other model of new Dodge truck. One single wall pipe 4" in dia. , don't know what Ford has, never saw one.

According to the Master Tech Reference Book, "During regeneration, the external temperature of the exhaust system can reach as high as approximately 600 degrees Fahrenheit (315. 6 C). "
