We're looking to head to Death Valley in March for just a few days. The few pics I can find of the "campground" at Furnace Creek make it look like a paved lot. Same with some of the others that I can find info on. Is there anywhere in the area that is a little more "secluded" that allows trailers? We'll have 2, maybe 3, with the longest being about 32'. We don't want a parking lot, as we have kids from 9 to 13. Hookups are not needed. Thanks for help.

They paved it? The last time I was there it was simply a gravel parking lot. But then again, there is very little vegetation anywhere except where the hotel is located.

This is the state park link and has the ifo for nearby camping. We stayed there a couple of years ago near Scotty's castle at a very nice shady "camping style" campground. Can't recall the name.

Hope this helps,

Greg

The Mesquite Springs campground on the north end of the valley is our favorite, stayed there last weekend. It's as close to secluded as you get in Death Valley and a little higher elevation. There are no hookups, but there is water, bathrooms and RV dump facility. It's a small campground with a lot of room between spaces, and it fills up quickly on holiday weekends. The park entrance fee is $20 per vehicle, campground fee $12 per space. Bring cash, exact change for the campground fee. There is a ranger station about 1/4-mile north of the turn-off to the camp ground. I prefer the sites on the west side of the campground (#38 ;)). Expect to hear Coyotes at night.

This is space #36, looking south. The west-side spaces are to the right of the road in this view. A wash runs behind the west side and kids hill cimb beyond that.

You probably want to fuel in Beatty. I don't recommend Grapevine Canyon (Scotty's Castle) for long trailers.

Cheers,

Neil

I think the picture Boondocker posted is the site we stayed in a few years ago w/our 36ft 5th wheel. It was a nice quiet campground - at New Year's. I'd go back to that spot in a heartbeat.
