I was reading my manual last night. It says "under normal driving, the rear gear oil never needs to be changed", but I also read on here to change it every 15K miles.
I drive 90% highway, then Tow 10,000 lbs for 2 hours (round trip) every couple weekends, sometimes making a longer trip. I just turned 15,000 miles in one year. I would say 3000 of those miles was towing, the rest of the time I am empty (accept for my 600 lbs of cinder blocks I been carrying around all winter so I can get out of the driveway in the snow
)
Anyway, how often should I change the Trans (g56) and rear oil? I am getting ready to do an oil change (every 7500). I do notice it seems to be getting "notchey" when shifting lower gears.
I am getting ready to leave for Disney in 4 weeks with the camper. (2000 miles RT)
My problem is all the oil I need adds up to $150. 00, plus $20. 00 to renew my Amsoil prefered discount. not sure its worth it! The truck is a 5 year lease, and I have yet to keep one after the lease (the dealer always roles me into a new one for the same payment
)
Anyway, If I gain 1 MPG running Amsoil (wishfull thinking) I would save $75. 00 over each oil change. I guess if I did see 1/2 mpg difference the amsoil would be a "break even" over standard Shell rotella T. If I am reading the maint schedule correct, the "not heavy use" schedule is for oil changes every 15,000 miles? I guess I could run the Amsoil engine oil for the full 15K miles? I am sure the oil would be OK, heck I change our VW TDI every 10,000 miles, it only holds around 4 quarts and the oil VW forces me to run ain't even synethic!
