Having the problems with the edge drag comp that most are probably aware of. Edge doesn't have a clue as to what to do for the no turn on when cold problem:confused: . I am thinking of getting a refund and going with a TST as I already have a smarty. I was wondering if the drag comp or if the TST smarty stack will give the best HP torque #'s on the dyno with my set up?

Also which TST product is the best? do they have on the fly adjustments ect?

Comments and advice wanted from those with first hand experience with both.

Both the Drag Comp and TST have their advantages. The Drag Comp was typically smoother power than the TST. However I had the competition TST stacked w/EZ which fueled very hard and would flat haul arse when you wanted it to.

I seen about a 4 psi increase in boost from the TST Comp/EZ vs. Drag Comp.

I don't think you would be able to tell a difference between a TST and comp unless you where on a dyno. If you don't have a fuel box and own a smarty I would go for the TST.

BILLVO,

Finally convinced my friend with a similarly modded 6 spd truck (with Hotrod VP44) to unhook the Edge Comp he was having issues with and try the Smarty/TST combo (don't know which program is in TST). He couldn't believe it made the difference it did! Definite SOP difference. To me the reason is that Smarty is controlling the timing instead of the fueling box. No dyno numbers but he won't go back to the Edge Comp now.

Godspeed,
Trent

Put a 1k resis. in the IAT circiut and you will be able to run the drag comp in cold weather. There was discussion about this in some recent theads. YOUR RIGHT, THE TECH'S AT EDGE HAVE NO CLUE. I had the problem for several FRUSTRATING months before i fooled the IAT circiut. I suggested to a tech that i send the box in for a less aggressive timing. That was not possible. They were no help!! The resistor fools it into thinking the air is hot and it retards the timing. The edge's timing is to aggressive on some trucks!

I have no issue with cold weather timing. I have heard people say they get to much ping or knock but I don't have this problem. It is the problem of it not turning on when cold unless I cycle the key a couple times. lots of people are having this happen. Some say it will not work when hot also,It will not turn off or switch levels unresponsive keypad. Another issue is the sublevel of one level affecting the next. Example if level 4 is on sublevel 2 then level 5 even if sublevel is set to 5 will only be on sublevel 2.

The drag comp is still rated at +120hp but it dont defuel on 5x5 right? The TST comp is rated at like +180hp so why wouldn't better dyno numbers be had with a smarty/tst comp?

The Drag Comp defuels at 3200 rather than 2700 of regular comp... . that is the only difference between the 2. Although my truck felt like it gained power through the entire powerband after the upgrade.

Regarding the cold weather edge problem (having to cycle the key once to get it to turn on). I have this problem as well when under 30 degrees or so.

One possible fix would be to splice a switch inline with the power wire running to the edge box. The switch should be a momentary switch which is normally closed. This way you can start the truck and if the box doesn't turn on, press the button for a second or so, and then turn on the box. It would think the truck was turned back off for a second. Haven't tried it, but it should work.

Im not sure which combo would yield the biggest dyno numbers, but from expierences my Edge HOT has a much more aggresive fuel curve on 5X5 compared to my buddys PowerMax 3 on 9. Ive heard that the TST's make big power but to me they dont feel as hard hitting. im sure a TST/Smarty stack would be the cats ***. i cant imagine a comp/smarty stack. MY . 02

Are you a mind reader?:-laf I was thinking of doing that too, to save a bit of wear and tear on the key switch. I'm going to do some other experimenting before I do that though.

You should do it... . power is way smoother & instant throttle responce! Awesome, but the Drag Comp/ Smarty is even better.

Edge will get this problem figured out soon... . you don't have to start & shut back off... . just a quick cycle before starting.

Thats all I do is cycle before starting but I was thinking a switch in the edge power wire would save on the key switch and batteries and everything else from aLL THE REPEATED ON OFF CYCLES.

Back when i had just a comp box my truck dyno-ed 50hp more than my buddies truck with Competition tst,rv275's,and the mad ecm. Same dyno 30 minutes apart. Both were 5 sp trucks in 4th. He was smokey though. Edge comp on my bone stock truck added 143hp-350ft lbs. Drag comp made 7 more hp torque was same. I had a smarty and it was fun to drive. i think i would have dynoed higher w/o it. Top end=Edge . Power down low=smarty all the way.

here is some good info from Doug:

We did some dyno testing on the stacks mentioned and the results would surprise you..... The Drag Comp alone made great numbers when adding a Smarty the dyno numbers went down. The best combo was the TST Comp stacked with an EZ. I will see if I can find the graphs and post them.

The deal is that the TST, Redline, and Drag Comp all made very similiar numbers (within 10 HP of each), if the RD and TST were stacked with an EZ. Dollar for dollar the DC is the best bargain and has the nicest manners. If max HP was my goal I would use a TST/EZ, for sledpulling or racing I would consider the RD/EZ.

Doug
