My father in law, like me, has an '01. He's doing a fair amount of logging around his property and wants to add a winch. Based on the weight of his truck, I recommended at least a 12,000 lb winch - I'm partial to Warn and had a M12000 on my K5 that was awesome. We might upside to the M15000... ... ... ... .

So what mounting options do you guys recommend? What is the hot setup in your opinion for the bumper? Are there any off the shelf bumpers that will bolt on and ready to go now?

Thanks in advance. :D

You'll get as many opinions as…well. IMHO I've been pleased with my Pro-zapp since I bought it 6 years ago. The stainless finish always gets compliments, and its been RUGGED. BTW I designed a sliding rack mount for the front license - down to cover the spool of the M15000, up to view the spool for winching. I can try to post pics. Several weeks ago I used it to pull a large Kitty excavator that got fuel-gelled at our local transfer station. I just love it when they say "you can pull THAT?" (and lets leave that line alone!:-laf ) I also had room inside the bumper to mount jumper cable plug and an air plug (if there's EVER a KILBY for the 98 V12's!).

I'll second the buckstop, definately a bolt on and go... ready for your winch to bolt right up.

The opening for the winch is behind the license plate.

Can you guys shoot me an approximate price you paid for the winches AND the bumper?

Those Buckstops are great looking and beefy. Thanks for the info.

won't use an electric... ...

I have a Milemarker 12,000 hydraulic - LOVE IT! Same one the US Army uses... .

Hydraulic is just fine if your truck is stationary. If you plan on moving and turning the steering wheel then the winch stalls. They have been ban from certain trails where a winch is required to make the pulls (Suprise Canyon, Ca... currently closed :{). Also, electric works when the engine doesn't.

Pays your money and takes your chances...

That's not in any way true, I run the 10,500lb MileMarker on my TJ and the steering is no different whether I'm using the winch or not... not that it would matter, the winch will pull until something moves or breaks. It'll also pull 24/7 at max capacity without getting the least bit warm... something you can't do with an electric. On something like a large truck which isn't out on a trail you really can't go wrong with hydraulic, I wouldn't want to trust pulling my stuck 3/4ton truck out of anything with an electric even with dual batteries.
