I have a friend and fellow DTR member that called from the road. He is driving up from Florida to Pa and has a problem with his 96 Dodge 3500 Auto CTD. Everytime he hits a bump his truck goes out of Overdrive and then he has to rev it back up to get it into OD. Also his cruise control went out at the same time. Any help would be great and I'll call him and let him know. Pete

Tell him to hold the brake pedal up with his toe. May sound silly, but the brake switch controlls TC lock-up and cruise. Had the same problem. Replace or reset the brake switch.

Thanks. After thinking about it for awhile that is what I figured it was. I told him to check it and the next time he hit a bump his brake controller light came on as if he was hitting the brakes and the T/C unlocked. Sounds like the brake swithc to me. Thanks

I Had the same problem on my 95, a roadside fix was a small bunge cord hooked on the dash on one side then around the back of the brake pedal arm to another spot on the dash to keep the pedal from bouncing on the switch when hitting rough road.

... reset the brake switch.

I don't think this is possible. The brake switches are "self adjusting". A buddy that was "helping" me replace mine pushed the plunger in on my new one messing around with it. Had to buy ANOTHER one.

Be careful with the new one so this doesn't happen to you.

I know what you mean. I almost pushed the plunger when I picked up the part at dealership. I'm glad I waited till I got home and read the manual. You think there would be an instructional warning "do not push button" or something?

These switches are adjustable, pull the plunger outward as far as can. Now push it slowly,it will click. Four clicks in and it's set.
