The above fuel elements are all micron 4



The BT339 is a microglass-blend media lube oil filter element. Both cell and glass. Combination of both worlds. Baldwin states that 100% glass isn't good because the glass cannot be bent well and limits surface area.

The BT339 is a replacement for the Fleetguard LF3552 and LF3894 as well as the standard media element.



From what I have read, the Baldwin filters are made with a higher degree of technology at a lower cost.



Yes, I have been looking in the cataloge and there are a couple of different filter restriction guages. I'd be happy to look up the part numbers. They may or not operate with our application. The amount of air flow will determine. When I turn up the fuel on the bus engine the filter minder will pull down red.

4 micron fuel filter? Oo. COOL!! Now I dont have to get the fancy 2002 filter setup to go to the 7micron filter. Oo. Oo.

I've used the BT339 for years, also the BF1232! No problems here. Lately I've been using Fleetgard, my son gets them at a discount since he works for Cummins

I don't know what the 4 micron will do in terms of flow. We have been using 10 micron with the Fleetguard FS1232.



I for one believe the fuel pressure guage is a must. Both my trucks have them.

air flow (cfm) = Displacement (cu in) RPM

CF = 2 (Cycle Factor) for a 4-cycle engine

VE = 1. 4 (Volumetric Efficiency) for a turbo engine

Air Cleaner Restriction Indicators:

AFG30 Round dash mount gauge measure 0 to 30 inches water



AFG37R Remote mount Flag Type Pop - Up to 25 inches water



AFG38D Direct mount 1/8 inch pipe Flag Type Pop-Up to 25 inches water

So which of the aforemention filters are fuel? Oil?

Is BF fuel and BT oil?



Any micron fuel filter will work and not detrimentally impede flow... when they are clean.

A finer filter will clog sooner and impede flow.

A courser filter will last longer, ie have more capacity for dirt before flow gets impeded enough to impact performance.

So it's all a tradeoff folks.





Scott I use a humminbird depthfinder to measure depth of water. In shallow water I use a Stanley tape measure. You could use an old fashioned yardstick to measure 25 inches of water. It measures inches of snow this time of year.

Hey now, don't roll your eyes at me . Do I have to do the archive search to pull out the email I received from Cummins Filtration (Fleetguard) that said FS1232 is 25 micron??? Why do you think so many new truck owners breakdown, then come to find out their fuel filter was clogged up. Only to say, well I had an old 12 valve that I had for 100k miles and I never changed the fuel filter. 25 micron vs. the new 10 micron and 7 or less... big difference in service intervals. . IMO.



I've just started using Baldwin filters. Only thing about BF1221 and BF1226 is they're usually not stocked at your local farm/fleet/ Baldwin distributor. They'll say, we got one BF1232 in. www.baldwinfilters.com and www.cumminsfiltration.com are some good sites to surf and look up part numbers and filters etc. When I went searching for a bigger longer fuel filter with no sensor port, I just searched for one that used the same thread M16 x 1. 5 as ours. I came up with BF1221 or FS1221 for the Fleetguard version.

Yes Bill that is true and can be big.

For example in the marine world where fuel sits in the tank for a while this is a big deal. The guys with the 2 micron filters always have issues... . they guys with the 10 or 30 don't. And the engines last the same number of hours...

If the engine is designed to accept a 25 micron particle, then so be it. No real need to go too crazy.

The other option is to go with "multi stage" filtration... . put a large capacity course filter as first inline, then use a finer filter on the engine. Then you'll go back to a longer service interval.
