Why is there not a forum for trucks and parts?

Hi all.

I have my desktop PC running on a wireless internet card that hits the router in the next room over. Sig strength is always great but sometimes it wont read the router signal and I need to unplug the router and modem in order to go back online.

We are using cable internet hooked up to a motorola modem, which is hooked up to a Lynksys wireless router 8. 11g. It did the same thing with a older motorola modem and a older belkin router.

The card in the computer is good because when its down, i can see other peoples routers in the neighborhood, but not mine.

Any suggestions where to look?

do you know how to get into your router? type 192. 168. 1. 1. if you have not changed the login information no name required and put admin in the password. First change that information and then find where the signal channel it should be 6. change it to either 1 or the other end. Channel; 6 is the default and your computer will get confused on what signal it actually wants. I don't have access to my router at the moment (stupid me).

Next encrypt your signal. The best way to do that is to connect your computer to the router by hard line and set the encryption password. Go to your wireless connection in your computer and connect to the wireless. When prompted enter the same password as on the router and you will be good to go.

Just make sure that you select the same encryption on both IE: WEP or the other ones available.

currently is encrypted wep, will try to change the channel and see how it works. Keep the ideas coming. . Thanks

Try going to the manufacturers website and see if there is a software update for the router - good chance that there is if you haven't updated it yourself. My wireless router did the same thing and upgrading the software solved it.

I had a linksys router also after about 2 years of owning it it started doing the same thing. I tried a bunch of different things and no luck finnaly I went to Best Buy and the guy there told me they can just get old and do that. something inside them can just stop working. So I just bought a new modem it cost me about $40 brand new not too bad of a deal and no more problems.

Both your router and the phone use the same 2. 4GHz band. If your phone rings when you're using the wireless, you will be cut off.

I have an older version Linksys. My buddy that sits behind me at work has the newer version. WE both had this problem. On mine, I would have to restart it about once per week.

In both our cases, we bought a different firewall that did not have wireless, but still needed wireless so the linksys ended up on the inside network, protected behind the new firewall. locking up problem went away.

This tells me that something (some kind of scanning or something) on the internet side of these linksys routers is causing the router to lock up.

Mine is doing the same thing and I have upgraded the firmware. It's going on 3 years old now and I think it's just time to replace it. I think I'm going to get an N router next time though.

It seems to be an XP Service pack2 issue. I have had the same issue with ONE of my laptops the second I upgraded. It has been doing it ever scince. The other laptop works O. K As long as I do not let it sleep , hibernate or log off. :-{}

Well, I had the same and similar problems, but could only have one person on at a time.

Upgraded the firmware, much faster connection, multiple users at the same time, etc.

So go to link sys, with the model and HW version number and upgraded your firmware.

After you down load the firmware from the web site at a convient location on your hardrive, open your web brouse and type in 192. 168. 1. 1 and login to your hub. Go to admin and upgrade firmware, it will ask you to "browse" for the file and the upgrade. While it is doing this do not cut the power or change anything.

It take about 1-2 minutes and then you power off the hub and repower it. Then go back and log into your hub and reset up all of your security.

I suggest turn off SSID broadcast, turn of wep encription(128bit), MAC address filtering (wireless) and also manage hub from a wired connection not a wirless connection (your choice here).

Also reset your hub password and write it down.

I suggest you only do one security feature at a time and test it before going onto to the next.

good luck
