Has anyone heard of a bad batch or billet OD planitarys going around?

I had one grenade in my trani and the builder is saying that there are a bad batch going around... It grenaded and took out the rear of the trani, went to 0% cooling and started melting it all up.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

They are building me another one and shipping it from Alberta...

This is the 2nd time its being replaced or rebuilt since new... a few months ago. .

This is trani #5 for the truck (only 2nd from these guys) and will be valve body #13... . #@$%! :{

How old was the transmission?? Curious when this "bad batch" was produced.

When I got the 1st trani from this manufacturer, it was early Late Jan. the reverse band blew and also took that drum nd all the clutches. They then repaired the "back" section of the trani and rebuilt it.

Now this...

So that being said the trani was built MID Jan... but who knows how ling they had this "BATCH" of planitarys... ?

No one else hear this???

#@$%!

They probably didn't mean Billet planet just steel planets. But I haven't seen a batch, remember that the 48re come with steel planetaries, so you could just ask the guys on here with newer trucks if they have had planetary issues.

need to make sure you have good return cooler flow. Remember that the return cooler line is the lubrication for the O/D planets and intermediate shaft.

I was told they were billet? :confused: Maybe there counter guy dont know what he was talking about... ?

The installer flushed all the lines and coolers ... Local transmission shop that has been doing desiels for over 20yrs

BD made me replace all the coolers not that long ago as well. Radiater mount and engine mount (tq).

Trani is the 48RE...
