I'M lOOKING AT NEW AIR FILTER SYSTEM, IS AFE MY BEST BET? AND IF SO, WHAT KIND OF PERFORMANCE GAIN WILL I GET IF ANY? AND WHICH AFE SYSTEM WOULD YOU SUGGEST?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY REPLIES. .

there are many different ways to go on air filters. i have never used an AFE and can not speak for or against it.

however, if you are looking for a SAFE alternative to the stock air filter to flow more air and still keep good filtration, i highly recommend giving a look at the amsoil EA series air filters. they are a drop in replacement and cost around $50. it is a dry filter than can be easily cleaned with low pressure air or a vacuum cleaner.

i have had one for over a year and it has worked flawlessly. with my TST and BD super B, i have never seen the filterminder move.

my . 02

good luck

Just curious if going for something like the amsoil EA filter would increase the turbo noise at all. Any idea?

it may have increased it slightly. could also be the wishing that it did. there is just enough turbo noise for me. lets me know it is working without becoming annoying on the road.

the other major mod I did was drilling a series of 1/4" holes in the bottom of the air box. on my 04, there are molded in stiffeners in the bottom of the box on approx. 3/4" squares. I drilled a hole in the middle of every one of those areas. maybe 20 or 30 holes. can't really recall the exact amount. it was too long ago.

these holes are very beneficial, because the truck was subjected to a heavy rain storm with driving through a flooded area a while back and when i looked in the air box it was only damp. glad they were there.
