I don't follow the 3rd gen too much. Here is the deal a friend has an 03 and wants my help upgrading his converter and valvebody. He is going with a DTT single disc converter and a Suncoast DC487 valvebody. But I know that 03 had both 47 re and 48re trannys in them. How do you tell which it is?

I was told that the 8th digit of the vin is the transmission code indicator if it is the letter "C" it is a 48re if it has the number "3" it is a 47 re. Is this information correct?

He needs to know this before ordering any parts.

Also how do you get the codes from the 3rd gens?

Help this second gen guru learn something about the new stuff:confused:

Generally if it is an HO it will have the 48re. The SO's had the 47re. There are a few SO's out there that got a 48re in the changeover. Not sure on the Vin# thing.

To get the codes you turn the key on without trying to start it.

on-off-on-off-on and the codes should pop up on the odometer

The guy just called me with his VIN # and unless you count from the right it isn't right. The 8th from the right is a 3 or 10th from the left.

Luckily he had his original window option sticker and it is a 47re.

So getting codes from 3rd gens is the same as the 2nd gens.

Thanks
