Here I am

NV4500, NV5600, 47RE, 48RE output configuration the same?

Trans adapter question...'90 6BT to '93 47RH

What is needed to use a 24 valve?

Do all of these transmissions have the same output shaft spline count (23 spline) and mounting configuration to the transfercase?

I assume they must since I always hear about people swapping their 241DHD (which is behind either the NV4500 or NV5600) for the 271 transfer case (3rd gen dodge, which came from either a 48RE or the new 6 speed).

Any idea?

NO on the spline but YES on bolting it up---well at least the 47re and any of the manuals don't match up---the auto is smaller ---I do think the 48re may be the same, but can't say 100% for sure---the 271 has the same issues if memory serves me right... .

you can take a DHD from an auto truck and swap it for your DLD with no hassles, but once you change from manual to auto or auto to manual you will need to change out transfer case input to mate up ---long ago I found this out and I had a custom billet output shaft made to the same size as the 5spd manual output so I could use the DHD t-case from a manual truck and also to have a super stout output---I got tired of having to change that thing out---I'm fairly sure you also have to watch out for the driveshaft mating up as the output shaft is bigger on the manual t-case vs the auto t-case, again-- if memory serves me right---the other thing is the front driveshaft gets compressed a little when going from one to the other(I don't remember exactly) but I think when you go from DLD to DHD this happens, no problem bolting it up though---hope this helps----just make sure you double check all shafts with t-case, inputs, outputs and driveshaft connection---chris

So the spline count or size is different between the manual and auto trucks?

I have a 48RE and 273 transfer case from an 04 Dodge to put in my excursion. I was hoping to be able to adapt the 48RE to the existing ford 273 case and the use my dodge 273 t-case for another project.

Advanced adapters sells a kit to mate a NV4500 (23 spline) to a ford t-case (31 spline) NP208/205, didn't know if I could make this work or not.

It sounds like if the output shaft from the transmission is a different size from a manual to an auto, then the adapter won't work for sure.

---YES THEY ARE DIFFERENT SIZES--

Advance Adapters didn't have a clue. They would only tell me that it would work for mating a NV4500 to a NP208/205. I couldn't get them to use their imagination at all.

Bottom line is the shafts are different between manual and auto, therefore their kit won't work. I'll just stick with my original plan, using the 48RE and dodge 273 t-case.

Thanks!

To shed new light on this project, I'm now looking into installing a tranfer case input shaft (out of a Dodge 273 from an automatic) into the Ford 273 transfer case. I heard this was done by someone up in Canada (waiting for a response from them). If this is a direct swap, it will make the project alittle easier.

Anyone have a rebuild book for a 271/273 transfer case (or know where to get one)?

I have done this swap, but the other way around. I put a 31 spline Ford 273 input gear into a Dodge 273. The input gear had to be machined as the Dodge 273 mainshaft is longer than the one in the Ford case. It might be bigger in diameter also, I'm not sure as I bought the input gear premachined from a local machine shop. It is not a direct swap.

the dodge nv4500 came in 2 versions 23spline light duty that was used with the 5. 2 and 5. 9 gas, and the 29spline version that was used with the gas v-10, and the 5. 9 diesel.
