Pyro question?

I have a BD x-Mon installed with pre turbo pyro. I just added Edge Juice w/A2. I did not install Edge pyro probe, i just wirred in a BD type connector to the EDGE wire loom. Now I can unplug the two wire connector and read the same probe from the X-Mon or the EDGE. Same probe but it reads 40 deg higher on the X-mon.



Can any one tell me why? I used a BD probe wire to the edge wire harness. I sodered the conectors and it should have a very good connection.



I did not use the edge probe because its a different NPT and i did not have the correct tap at home. I want to use one of the two probes as a post turbo probe eventually. But which one is more accurate?

Same probe but it reads 40 deg higher on the X-mon.

They might be calibrated for a different thermocouple type. Most of them are K-type, but maybe one of the monitors is expecting a J-type?

Anyway, it's probably a calibration issue.

How can you tell the difference?

Thermo couples are designed and calibrated to be used with a specific gauge and wire... . they are small voltage generators and each one reacts to heat a little differently and any resistance that is not normal for the circuit will foul the readings... .

They usually come with a specific length of wire, instructions on installation and your usually told not to solder..... Solder and cutting the wire and using connectors other than what is supplied usually will throw them off... . any excess wire is coiled and left... .

If they quit working its always a connection... . in 30 years in working with them I've never replaced a bad one... . we have at least 5 or 6 of these things in our shop where we watch the temperature of ovens, and other items we heat... .

The bulb has what is called a wheat stone bridge in it..... you damage or over heat the bulb and their scrap...

Hope this helps..... BTW, new digital units might be different... I'm talking simple metered units that need no supply voltage or other support except for lights for the meter... .

two egt probes

I put one on the exhaust manifold and one after the turbo as well. Watching both temperatures helps take care of an extra egt probe as well as knowing what your turbo temp is for when you want to shut down your truck.
