Hi,

Does this seem worth it to anyone else. My free year is coming to a close and it's all I've been listening to lately in the truck. Pro/Con ?

Thanks,

Joe

I'd say yes... I have paid more than that over the past 5 years of service with XM. I canceled XM because Sirius is much better and it came with the new pickup. The only thing that I would wonder about is what is going to happen if the XM and Sirius merger does happen... Will you grandfathered in or are you going to be limited to a certain amount of stations. The rumor is that if the merger is allowed by the FCC and and such, that they will offer packages similar to the way Satellite TV works... .

Just so you know. Lifetime is the lifetime of the radio, not your lifetime!:{ I think Sirius will allow you to transfer your subscription up to 3 times for $75 each time.

I am thinking for going lifetime and been looking for any kind of discount and haven't found any.

I have head there may be some dealing room if you let it expire and then they call you with an offer. But have never talked to anyone that has actually done that. :D If I find any discounts I'll let you know. Also it is hard to say what's gonna happen if Sirius & XM merge.

I let mine expire, because reception is horrible (dealer says that's normal). Nonetheless, it expired in October, but I still seem to get service.

Thanks so far. I know about the transfer fee. I am not too crazy about it, but I can live with it. I still have 4. 5 years of payments left and I love my truck. I figure if the merger goes through, I could transfer to new radio in the future if thay add more stations and have the best of both worlds.

I've got three Sirius units, all with the lifetime deal. I haven't had reception problems with any of them.

ohnoitsyu, bad reception is not normal, your dealer guy is an idiot. I drive alot all over the US and the only time I really lose reception is under overpasses or in tunnels. I installed an fm transmitter in my '06 and now I hardly ever lose reception in tunnels or under overpasses.

I've been all over the U. S. and have never had a reception problem anywhere (with Sirius). I really like it. The only extremely minor exceptions are: downtown between large skyscrapers, under an overpass (at highway speeds you don't notice any interruption -- you have to be in stop and go or slow traffic for an overpass to matter), or in a tunnel.

If your dealer says bad reception is normal he is clueless.

I bought it for my wife. . (about 1 1/2 years ago). Do not like the you can transfer it only 3 times. that is not "lifetime" subscription. . If it wasn't for the lifetime sub, might not have got it for her. Think, the monthly price is I think around $13 (at least it was) but after all the taxes and fee's it's porbably closer to $20 a month. . Thats $240 per year!!!! already half of a lifetime subscription.

I heard that the lifetime sub. was going away not long after I bought hers?? I guess not. or did they bring it back.

I bought the lifetime sub last year. I checked my account online and they said i was eligible for a promotional lifetime sub for i think $280. It turns out it was an error and they weren't going to honor it. , oh but they did when i got through with them.

I have a lifetime subscription on my truck that I paid $400 for (Sirius, not the truck) and have added two other units for $6. 99 / month each. IMHO, gettting the lifetime on the 1st unit is a good idea, but take the monthly deals on the add-on units. All billed on the same account. The Sirius website verifies the $75 transfer fee (up to 3 times) for the lifetime subscription.

I think I'll wait for the subscription to run out next week ...

before I commit to the lifetime service. It's funny how lifetime doesn't mean what it used to. Everyone seems to have their hand in my pocket for monthly fees.

Not to change the subject, but has anyone converted to HD-radio? The same am/fm stations but CD quality. Thanks for the input:)

I have two lifetmes sub... :D

I have good to excellent reception except under bridges/tunnels and sometimes driving the Gorge ie. mountains.

If you are getting bad reception, check all connections and make sure the antenna is pointing straight up.

You can transfer more than 3 times if you really know how to work the system.

and tranfer for free.

1. If the unit goes bad and needs to be replaced:rolleyes:

2. If the unit is stolen.

I have had experience with these two situations and it was transfered for free.

On the stolen unit we notified sirius immediatly and it was turned off the stolen unit. Alot of good it did the thief... . :-{}

It was a few weeks before we replaced it. So we just gave them the new SN and voila... . no problem no charge, and asked us if we want the playboy channel for free, I said sure why not??? :D :-laf

Just FYI I had a unit burn out and I paid for a new unit There was a call in on Howard 101 that had the same problem and Sirius sent him a new unit free of charge.

Mine is great as long as you aren't in a big city. I drove all over the SW in January, and it was nice not to have to change channels. The only time I lost reception was in the larger cities. I have the same problem around Indy, and it seems to be the same places. I think it's radio interference.

I bought the lifetime sub for myself. I think it is a good idea. Should start saving money in a couple of years!

Playboy channel is OK. I listen to it for about 1 hour a day for the afternoon show with Tiffany. Then it is BUBBA all afternoon. The best show on Sirius.

I often lose reception on over-passes! The dealer(s) (I've taken it to a couple) can't seem to repeat the problem driving in their immediate area, so they simply won't do anything.

For those who know Los Angeles and Orange County, I drive on the 91 freeway to work from the 5 to the 110, and it cuts off in many places for often up to 10-15 seconds at a time. There are no large buildings to interfere, either. It's probably some kind of intereference that the system seems to be susceptible to. Fortunately, my Honda with its XM radio never has a problem. #@$%! It doesn't even cutout in most under-passes.

Huh? How do you make sure the antenna is pointed straight up? Its just a puck antenna without directionality????????

That's really odd..... I'd expect a city as big as LA would have repeaters in the area. There's lots of repeaters in the Lexington, KY. area where I work.
