Air Filters

Hello

What type of Air Filters are you guys using. Im using the K&N filter that came with the BANKS Stinger Plus system Im concerned about the fine dust issue. As you know, there isn't much after -market items for our first Generation trucks. Any idea's?

I use the stock filter setup. I never liked a filter I could see daylight threw.

Fleetguard AH19037 if my memory serves me correctly. Add an Outerwears prefilter and you are in business.

I have used the aFe drop in element since the truck was new. Does't appear to let dirt through. Just remember to clean it every now and again

I have run K&N for most of the 380,000 miles in my signature line - never seen a problem with dusting, however I have had dust pass through using a paper element filter.



The K&N's or any of the re-usable filters for that matter must be cleaned according to the manufacturer's instructions. You cannot cut corners in this area at all.

The many aftermarket filters will work if you remove the OEM box/intake assy. You can use just about any of the aFe elements advertised in Geno's Garage cataloge. They will question your sanity though, but they fit just the same. The tapped banjo bolts work great also, even though "they don't fit our trucks"



The aFe stage one filters have a flat end (opposite the end with the big hole ) and the stage two have an inverted cone end. You simply need a filter that will fit the intended pipe (intake pipe) size.



I also use the pre filter to help shed water.

Read about my K&N experience here. Needless to say, based on MY experience, I wont run one in a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower. I had no problem with them in Colorado, but when I moved to MO in '03, the finer dust of an agricultural area with loamy & clay soil was too much for the K&N.



RWWinslow- I'm glad you have had good luck with your K&N. What kind of paper filter let dirt past, and what kind of power were you making to do so? Just curious.

Without being a lengthy post. Please research the AMSOIL air filter. In my opinion it is the best. It has the best combination of filtration and airflow. Some of the popular filters have little filtering but alow alot of airflow, in my opinion that is not good espesially if you are in a dirty climate. Good luck.

I got told this by another amsoil dealer in the TDR and he couldn't find one that fits in the stock housing of my 91.

Jay, you are correct AMSOIL does not make one yet for a 1991 CTD. Sorry to mislead anyone.
