On 4/02/07 I posted a somewhat angry note that I had learned from Adam Macomber that the factory was no longer accepting orders for certain '07. 5 models, even though it was not yet even '07. 5. (I may have been somewhat naive to expect differently,... I am new to this new-truck ordering business).
In any case, I wish to acknowledge Adam's efforts to pursue the attempt to order it regardless.
As it turned out, Adam/we have since learned that the situation is in-fact somewhat different, and orders WILL be accepted at least though the end of this month(April). [As has been posted in this forum by other TDR members]
Result,... my order HAS been accepted, and I now have a VIN for the truck.
It is a credit to Adam's persistance and encouragement that I have my truck coming as-spec'd from the factory, rather than my having huffed off to look at a different brand, or having to choose from dealer-available units, or wait until '08's are available.
Some bits of info that were developed during the process (with Adam spending time, in a courteous and friendly manner, to address each detail and question):
If anyone wishes, as I did, to get the electronic transfer case for their 4WD, there is nor specific reference as to code number, etc. , in the catalog or any other info I have found, to tell you how to specify this item on your order.
At this time Adam believes it to be INCLUDED in one or both of the "Laramie" packages, alhough the catalog does not indicate this. This belief is supported by the fact that TDR member Mel swanson is thought to have received the ETC, as part of such package. My attempt to verify this by e-mail to Mel was not answered.
Bottom line,... if you desire this item,... address the issue with your dealer(and I am certainly among those heartily recommending Adam!).
Anyone with more specific info re. this item, please post.
(The reason I want the dash-controlled ETC is to clear the floor/foot space in front of the middle front-seat. I acknowledge that the manual transfer may be less "issue" prone)
Regarding VON's and VIN's, per Adam):
The VON (Vehicle Order number) indicates only the existence of a submitted order, ... and says nothing about its having been accepted/not accepted.
The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) indicates that the order has been accepted, and a number has been assigned to the actual vehicle that is now "in the system", and will be produced, barring extraordinary circumstance.
This order is for a 3500 QC 4WD LB DRW 6. 7/68RFE(auto) LSD 3. 73 Laramie H.
(W/tow pkg and other "stuff")
Will post in Mel's "Good, Bad, and Ugly" thread after conclusion/delivery.
Good luck with your orders!
