Smarty Question - What is "Torque Management" ?

I have been following the Smarty things here and have not seen a direct answer to this question. I e-mailed Bob Wagner and did not get a response. Instead I got a question regarding Combustion Temp vs Exhaust Temp.



So here is my question... What the heck does "Torque Management" refer to when they talk about "Mild Torque Management" or "Stock Torque Management"?



Does this relate to throttle response and turbo lag. Would the Stock Torque Management have less smoke when I mash the throttle than the "Mild" one.

It's that lag when you punch the throtlle to get into heavy traffic. The computers way of "just saying no" to your input. #@$%!



More nicely put. . it's ChryCo's way of saving wear and tear on the drivetrain. Most notably the clutch/transmission. It moderates early throttle input.



At any rate. . I HATE it. It's the one thing that may get me to un-stock my tow rig. Totally sucks when you need to get hard on the throttle and it thinks about it a second or two.



I suppose torque management does help keep smoke down. Less fuel early.

From what i understand torque management is how fast and how hard it rolls the fuel on related to throttle input. Stock is stock tm, less smoke. wild is well it's in the name, very little or low tm and losts of smoke. Also i think i have heard on stock, mild tm it defuels during shifting on auto's to save them, you can't tell it defuels but it does.

I beleive, too, that like when you are power braking the truck and it takes forever to light the tires that your feeling, that "torque limiting" switch that the factory puts into it. I think on some 2nd gens you could cut the wire to this feature and do away with it. Not on 3rd gens though, youll need a programmer that does this for you.

torq gets transmitted to the transmission by the engine is controlled by the ECU. TM is allowing more of it to happen.

Thanks guys. Makes sense to me. Clear as... er... The big black Diesel soot cloud I make when I mash the throttle with my Smarty on #3 and "mild" torque managemet.
