Just curious as to what your idle is set at RPM wise? I had the long crank and other updates installed on my 06 yesturday and seems that my idle is set a TAD bit higher? When I checked my 02 compared to the 06 they were both the same so I assume it's normal, just seems like they kicked it upa notch. . thanks!!!! :cool:
 
the latest flash for the g56 trucks raises the idle to 850 to help out the dual mass flywheel. i have been trying to get my idle back down since then but i havent been sucessfull as of yet.

750 RPM - :confused:
 
750 in my 06 here, but I have not had the flash done. I notice at times I tend to let the clutch out without giving it enough fuel and the rpm drops lower then it should. my 98 did not do this. raising the idle to 850 would help prevent my accidently doing this. I think I might get the flash done.

They did that because some people think it's ok to idle in high gear (3rd, 4th , 5th even 6th). I never understood why one would drive with chattering clutch center springs, driveline, and in your case a DMF(dual mass flywheel), rather than drive at a more normal 1400-1500 rpm. There isn't any better MPG by going that low on RPM, and there are lots of problems, like inadequate oil pressure, insufficient charging, too low a fan speed and water circulation. The crankshaft flexes a little too much, as do most chassis components. I agreee with starting at idle in first gear, but beyond that, 750 rpm is just too low.

So now you'll burn a few gallons more at stoplights at 850 rpm, because of the people that (probably unknowingly) abuse their drivetrains at 750 rpm. Some, I have read on here, even tow uphill at idle, offroad.

On anothernote, truck is actually at 780-90 RMP's at Idle. Just a half a needle width under the 800 mark. Results so far after the flash and a 500 miles pull with my Horse trailer:



Towing MPG went from 12 to almost 15!!! VERY NICE... Same EXACT road and condiitons I always travel on.



NO MORE DMF noise that I can hear in Neutral like I have had. .



No more A/C Humming!!!! Yippi!!

Easy. Put it in first gear, ease the clutch (no right pedal) and get rolling. Then switch to second, and slip the clutch a little, and go faster, still at idle speed (no right pedal). Then repeat all the way to 6th. It will make some not so pleasant sounds and vibrations, but people do it. It's a Cummins, so it can do it, right?



To idle uphill, put it in first gear, ease the clutch, and let it do the driving, towing uphill with no throttle pedal. That's why they raised the speed, to protect the DMF form too low an rpm, that causes it to "resonate", or vibrate wildly.
