All,

I am trying to install a factory Jake Brake on a 07 3500 Mega. The new turbo is a bit longer than the stock and I can't get the Jake to install because it is hitting the A/C brackets. The truck is DOA at this point and I need to find out if Jake makes a smaller vacuum canister for the unit. Does anybody have a number or have they done this install before? I have already removed the exhaust manifold and reinstalled everything, I had to do this because I could not even get the elbo in without the removal. HELP!!!

Thanks,

Rob in PA

Well, Just so everybody knows and does not go through what I just did, the factory Jake Brake will not fit with the aftermarket ProStreet 62/14-71mm turbo on an 07 - 5. 9. The vacuum canister on the brake is about 1/2 inch too close to the firewall. I had to remove the entire assembly again and return to the stock turbo (I really wanted the exhaust brake as I tow a lot). I paid $1,625 for the turbo that I cannot even use now. I guess it is off to e-bay land ...

I learned this lesson back in 03 when I bought a new 03 3500 and had the dealer put on the jacobs exhaust brake. I couldn't find any aftermarket turbos that would bolt up. Best bet if you want an aftermarket charger is to get an inline exhaust brake.

I am in the middle of a move, but I am 100% sure that there was an article in the TDR magazine in the past year on how to put a Banks(?) exhaust brake on a Phat Shaft style turbo. Try to see if you can find that article, but basically they redrilled the actuator mounts, and relocked the actuating lever to compensate for the move. Hope this helps, Moose

My buddy just went through this exact problem this week. Here's the only answer that works. Keep the factory Jake, remove the turbo and sent it to High Tech Turbo (website htturbo.com) so that they can upgrade the compressor side of the unit. It will come back able to bolt up exactly stock. This what he's doing on his 01 3500. In fact they shipped his back yesterday and hopefully it will be in middle of next week so that he and I can bolt it back in. Total cost of upgrade plus rebuild w/ new bearings and cleaning was $550 plus shipping. He uses his truck for towing a 33 ft 5th, so it'll work in your case too. Good luck.

I don't know if this will work on your truck or not, but if you were to turn the vacuum actuator 180* [12 o'clock to 6 o'clock]... . would it clear? I can explain how to do it if you think it would work. It is very easily done. This is how I installed a 04. 5 exhaust brake on my 99.
