Something is wrong with my windshield wipers, and I was wondering if anyone out there has encountered the same problem. When I try to turn the wipers to the delayed settings, the wipers will not work. They will only come on when I turn them on to the low setting, and when I have them on low, the wipers are on high. So basically, I either have no wipers, or they continuously go really fast. Any suggestions? This is a huge pain in the butt during this time of year with all the light rain we're getting.

I can't imagine it being anything other than the multifunction switch.

Of course, I'm no mechanic. I don't even play one on TV! ;)

The TIPM (Total Integrated Power Module) used on 2004. 5-up vehicles means there is no relay controlling the wipers. That means the problem is either in the switch itself, or in the TIPM.

There are codes that are set by the TIPM, although it's not clear to me whether these codes will cause a CEL. They may be instrument cluster codes.

The first thing to do is check for instrument cluster codes, as this may narrow down the problem. I don't know how to do that on a 2004. 5 - maybe someone who does can chime in here?

From the wiring diagrams, it looks to me like there are only 3 components to look at: the switch, the TIPM, and the wiper motor itself.

There are 37 pages of diagnostic procedures for the wipers, all predicated on having a trouble code from the TIPM. Looks like a very difficult system to troubleshoot without the help of a DRB-III, but you should be able to do it once we get the codes.

I'm with PawPaw, mine were doing strange things like that and it was the multi function switch, it is still under warranty so dealer changed it. bg
