2007 3500 MegaCab first trip mileage

I have a 2006 3500 automatic transmission with approximately 40,000 miles on it. I have had a lot of problems with the transmission. It started when the transmission seemed to shift into neutral at about 45 mph before shifting into the next gear. I would have to let up on the accelerator to let it shift. It seemed to be right after third gear, this was an intermittent problem. Then it seemed that at times it would downshift instead of upshifting just for a quick second and then start to shift normally again. The dealer replaced the throttle position sensor, but this has not helped. Then it seemed the transmission would shutter when it would take off in first gear. At that point, the dealer said the transmission fluid was burned and rebuilt the transmission. That didn't seem to help either because at around 30 mph the transmission would miss a gear and RPM's would jump up. At this point, the dealer replaced the transmission. Now the transmission will not shift out of first gear unless you let off the accelerator and then push back down on it. Most of the miles are highway miles. Sometimes I pull a horse trailer. I don't think the problem has been with the transmission, but something that tells the transmission what to do. The dealer was going to put a "co-pilot" in the truck to monitor the system. Then, they told me they couldn't do it with the diesel engine. The dealer has talked to Dodge factory people on numerous occasions and there are supposedly no TSB's or other information from Dodge. I was hoping someone at the TDR might know more about the problem. Thanks for your help.

Not to derail the subject but a about 50K my trans started "acting Up" with lousy 1-2-1-2 shifts. I've changed the fluid a couple of times to no avai. I can "get on it" and it shifts OK but not well. Any ideas? A Goerend is in my near future I think!Oo.

My 06 Dually with 14,000 miles... ... always "shudders on launch". Am told that this is normal because of the driveshafts and the angles involved... loaded bed. . empty bed... . they try to hit a middle ground. I got used to it.

Mine use to shudder going into 4th but with the DTT it sets you back and hauls *****.

It has never shuddered on take off. Just goes to show you the differences in tolerance from one transmission to the next. I wish these guys(dodge/chevy/ford) would get their quality control together and finally stand behind us and their product!!

It takes a third party company like DTT (and others)to step up and fix their frankenproduct.

Check out my thread inquiry I left last year about what sounds like a similar symptom. I hasn't done it in a while but I'm only at 22K... .

Symptoms of slipping torque converter?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been having some intermittent issues while accelerating medium to aggressive once in awhile. Getting into the throttle such as merging onto a freeway (where I've experienced it twice) my tach will just about max out and I loose acceleration capability and it acts like it's in neutral and I don't regain acceleration unless I let off the gas and wait for a few seconds then I get power back. Meanwhile, I'm pretty much coasting down the freeway waiting for my power to re-establish. This happens in about a 5 second window or so. The other day it happened accelerating from on on-ramp and I push the pedal during this and all the sudden I felt a clunk and lunge to what I must assume is possibly my torque converter locking and re-establishing power? My temps are usually around 170-180 and it seems to happen right around 40-50mph which I believe is around the range where the TC is locking? Thought I'd solicite some feedback to see if I'm pushing power past the means of my TC. I have the Bullydog with extreme/perf setting when this occurs. Can't duplicate at will. I'll be going easy on it for now since I need it to tow my 5th wheel. This is the only issue I've had with the truck otherwise with mod's... for now. At what speed does the stock TC engage?

I am having similar problems with my 06. Seems to stutter from first to second a light or part throttle at around 15 MPH. Traffic and parking lots are when I see it most. If I accelerate briskly or even normally it does not due it. It seems to hunt gears to me, surging. If I use the tow/haul mode it will not do it. I have about 21k on it and never tow more than 5000 pounds. I guess I'll call the dealer next week and get it looked at. At least it is easy to duplicate.

Does it appear to do the old 1-2-1 shift??? What you describe above is a standard feature... . my 05 did it and my 06 does it..... only at light throttle from a stop or in traffic... . dont think i'd waste the time with the dealer.

You might check your wiring connectors at the transmission and from you computer.

I had similar problems with my 03 auto trans (48RE). Wouldn't up shift at times. as you describe. Dealer kept it a week not finding cause (didn't set code) and they didn't drive it enough for problem to show up.

So a few days later when the problem showed up again, I had the service rep. go riding with me. When it wouldn't upshift normally he finally believed there was a problem. When I picked it up a few days later, he said they had traced the shift problem to a corroded wiring terminal at the trans and replaced and cleaned it. Anyway it corrected my problem (knock on wood). It's been 9 months and has not reaccured.

That's exactly what it feels like except maybe 1-2-1-2-1-2-1 as long as I'm in the parking lot with a cycle time of about a second. What kind of a "feature" would that be?

Not a good feature! But it is common on the 04. 5+ trucks... . there are other threads on the issue (do a search on trans shifting, 48re shifting,... . )... . like i said it's been there on my 05 and now my 06... it's a design flaw / issue, the dealer cant fix it to the best of my knowledge... . my smarty actually helped with it some, but it'll still do it once in a while... .

If you drive in heavy traffic, try the t/h mode... . if i recall, that helps as well..... or use more throttle if possible..... it's only at really, really light throttle on mine.

I think someone already said this, but you might want to have the pressure turned up a little. I had a simmilar problem on my '03 with 62,000 miles on it. The dealer didn't seem to know too much, so I took it to a friend of mine who works on transmissions for a living. He turned up the line pressure just a touch and installed a more robust 2nd gear band while he was working on it. What he explained to me is that the 48RE works MUCH better when it's got a little more pressure behind it. It's just that most people want a smooth, can't feel it, type shift.

dtt has released their box it is suppose to fix flares and slips i have one in my hand and industrial injection has my truck. i think they are going to put it on today for me i hope this helps it was 274 shipped to me and has three settings that can be reprogrammed from them adjusts pressure and tv motor for shift points i will post and let you know how it works but stephen at dtt says it is the answer to all of are shift problems. i sure hope so but for the money i think it is worth a shot. the box is about 2. 5 by 2. 5 and i am mounting mine under parking brake release. 5 wires to hook up (splice connections). looks fairly simple. not the prettiest box but if it works it could be pink for all i care. right now i have the hunting in 1-2 and a flare at 2-3.
