Going to try some maintenance this weekend if I can squeeze it in between the thunderstorms. No, I don't have a garage to work in :{

I have heard and read that some of the published numbers for torque on the oil pan plug and the fuel filter cap are incorrect. My research says 37 ft. lbs. for the oil plug, and 25 ft. lbs. for the fuel filter cap. Are these numbers what you guys are using? I got the oil plug numbers from my owner's manual, and the filter cap numbers from the service manual at hemitruckclub.

Thanks

Steve

just go snug with a stubby ratchet on the fuel filter lid. . too tight and it will break, and o-ring seals don't need lots of torque to seal, the torque just keeps it from loosening up on its own
[and use the 1-1/8" socket, not the 1/2" square drive in the lid if yours has that]

oil pan plug is up to you. . i go snug on that with a 3/8" ratchet [my snug gets me into the 30-35ft/lbs range]

Get yourself a Fumoto oil drain valve from Geno's and install the next oil change and you wont have to worry about the torque #'s anymore.

As usual I agree with Nick, but I don't go anywhere near 30-35 ft-lb on the oil drain plug. I tighten it with my hand around the head of a 1/2" ratchet, so I get something like 15 or 20 ft-lb.

Either way, it doesn't take much.
